Default Every single flexplate bolt broke onto crank.....

Working on a friends car that was stuck on the road. Towed it home and found EVERY bolt holding the flexplate on is broke into the crank. Car is a 2000 Z28 with a turbo 400 tranny. Uses the stock flexplate and the spacer for the converter. Thoughts on this??

Maybe he was using subpar hardware bolts instead of Grade 8 or better flexplate bolts

They are grade 8 hardware store bolts. I'm hoping they were just over-torque and not some other underlying problem. Car was driving fine then just broke in a 1st gear pull after a new engine tune. Does ARP make the longer bolts needed with the turbo 400 spacer?

Unless they were too short I find it hard to believe that all the bolts would shear off without having locked up something.

At first when I read it I was gonna say that maybe he was making too much torque but in that case I think the flexplate would go first rather than the bolts Maybe the bolts were the torque to yield kind and they had been used previously.

None of the bolts were TTY. I'm thinking they were overtorque and perhaps too short. I'll post more when I get the tranny out. Get some pics too!!

gm has bolts that are to be used with the spacer. bad idea to substitute hardware store peices. the gm bolts have a little sleeve on them , not sure what it does, maybe stops this from happening
