Default Mad Dog Transmission in 2000 S10 ZR2

Hey guys, I have an 2000 S10 Zr2 that about 6 months ago lost 2nd and 4th and well as over drive due to the 2-4 band breaking I believe. I can get a level 2 transmission done form mad dog for about 1600 with a cooler. I use this truck as a daily driver, doesn't really get beat on unless me and my buddies decide to go mudding/off-roading (Doesn't happen much) and the occasionally ***** and giggles take off at the red light with some other pick ups. My question is will this transmission hold up? the truck is completely stock and making 180hp. I heard bad about mad dog, but with this truck I'm just not looking to put out a fortune for a transmission. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

You might want to consider this instead for $1600:

Since you are obviously willing to remove/install the trans yourself, you might call a few local, privately owned (non-chain) trans shops for a rebuild price. A basic rebuild should be around $1000. Of course to get a warranty, they will insist on installing it too.

I'm going to look into them, How much does it cost to ship the core to them?

I hear nothing but good about RPM, but I just hate to pump a lot of money into a daily driver you know. but on the other hand might be better off paying a little more if its gone last.

I believe they do stock rebuilds too if you call them and talk to them.

FLT or rpm ftmfw. You won't need anything crazy since you have a lighter truck with a v6. Either of their basic models will be good for your truck. To answer your question about FLTs shipping, it's $250 for both ways and you get a big plastic shipping case so it's safe unlike on a pallet and you have 30 days to send the core back. Chuck is a great guy to do business with and you can tell from talking to him that he cares about what hes doing and takes the time to build a transmission correctly.

Don't ever bring up Maddog again lol.

Hahha I gotcha man, FLT is looking like what I'm going to be doing. Seems like the best way to go, and not much if any more expensive than maddog.

Just a quick update on my situation ,,, I am still waiting for mad dog to give me a refund for my transmission,he has never got back to me to try and put things right all he does is insult anyone that try's to tell him the truth about his shabby workmanship, at least from what I can see my thread is warning other people about the way he works I think my next step is to start warning people on other forums like thirdgen, corvetteforum, camarozone, fbody, hotrodders.com etc I won't be the first 1 to talk badly about him on any of them , just do a google search and the bad reviews pop up everywhere .

Sorry to hear that you never got your money back or a working trans from Maddog, but that is not surprising.

Lou's posts #6 and #17 in this thread say it all:

He even says "Spread the word!!!" and so you should - just create links to the two threads so that members of other forums can read them too.
