Default Stand-Alone Trans Cooler

Is anyone running a remote trans cooler in a 4th gen F-body (1999) as a stand alone trans cooler? If so what make are you using and where have you mounted it?

B&m 70274. This is only cooler I’ve used on a few vehicles now and it does a really good job. Don’t have experience with other ones. Always used as a stand-alone, personally just don’t like going thru the radiator.

on the f car, have it mounted directly behind where the ta front bumper plate cover is I have one of those mesh bird plate covers so it gets plenty of airflow.

Can cayenne just create a new post. Then that picture. Then we can have 4 or 5 guys post pictures of different common locations for f body cooler placement.

Then sticky it

then close it

Sounds good to me. I can also edit this thread if Cayenne doesn't want to create a new post. Pictures of the mounting locations would be good too; members have placed them everywhere from vertically behind the radiator to horizontally with a fan under the radiator to under the rear axle.

lol, Thanks much my man

I will create a new post @mrvedit feel free to edit my title whatever I end up calling it.

If I had $100 for every time I posted that picture.... not to mention all the times I could have but didn't feel like it..... Google my friends goes a long ways.

Searching stand alone transmission cooler followed by simply putting Ls1 after would yield more results than one would have time to go through.

One of the two of you guys should add a link for the True Cool version of the oil cooler for a substantial price difference.

98Cayenne's post is now a sticky. Hopefully people won't abuse that thread.
It mentions that general discussion about external coolers can continue here.

Here are some older threads on the subject (please don't post on old threads; post questions and discussion here.)

Has anyone used a Tru cool 40K? I got my banjo fittings for my 4L80E and plan to run custom length hose to that. I have a Hayden 679 which works great on a 4L60E handling 450 hp, but will it be enough for a 4L80E handling 1200?
I had a
70264 running "dope style" and that configuration resulted in temps that were higher than my liking, so I didn't even bother trying it mounted normally, I just jumped to the Hayden 679 and it's been working great.

Nothing beats water cooling... well at least compared to air cooling.
Air-Con. refrigerant based cooling also works damn well!!!

ATF/ oil coolers that work with or in the engine cooling system radiator are ideal... using an air cooler (like a True-cool) in conjunction works very well.

I have used two (in series) of the Long/ True cool 11"x 11" or 12"x 12" oil coolers in front of a heavy-duty radiator and heavy-duty electric fans combo in high powered vehicles...
No water to ATF cooling unfortunately on this particular build... but with great air-flow, custom fan-shrouding, ducting, air-dam, and design... it worked great!!!

O!!! and a Thermostatic valve should be used to keep the ATF bypassing the coolers, less the fluid is up to temperature.
There is no real harm keeping the transmission cooler than operating temperature...
But from a performance stand-point and an ATF longevity point... it is ideal to have the temp in the 160*F to 180*F range.
