Default Comparing 3800 - 4000 TC's

Please confirm or correct my ratings below;

Quickest @ the track;
1 Yank PT 4000
2 TCI SSF 4000
3 Yank SS 4000
4 TCI SSF3800
5 Yank SS 3800

Loosest feel on the street ;
Same order as above

Hardest hitting off the line;
Same order again

Highest MPH @ the track;
Same order again

I will be adding Stage 2 heads and was considering stepping up to one of these converters to compliment them. My main concern is my 3.73 10 bolt with ET Streets. I'm thinking the 10 bolt will hold up to any of these verters except the PT4000. Am I mistaken?

Hey man, how's it going?

I'm not sure that the TCI 4000 will out mph the Yank SS series but I would put the YTP 4000 at the top in terms of performance and loosenes. I'd do the YTP 4200 if you are willing to go that way.

The SS4000 should actualy hit harder than the YTP 4000. All 5 are capable of breaking an an axle, differential or gears at the track with ET streets.

Hey Joel, it's been a long time. Good to see your still dishing out great info.

I thought that because the TCI 4000 is looser than the SS 4000 it would provide more shift extension and therefore more MPH. I'm a little fuzzy on the efficiencies between those two converters though. I think the YPT4000 or YPT4200 would be too loose for my tastes. You remember how conservative I am with that.
I'm leaning towards the TCI 3800 or Yank SS3800.I know the SS3800 would feel tighter than the TCI 3800 but would the TCI 3800 really feel tighter than the SS4000?

I had a tci 3800 with a 2.6 stator , great street manors , with a small 216/220 cam and boltons with 342 gears it ran 11.80s at 112 to 113 with high 1.5 60ft with fullweight 99 TA with only centerline rims , weight of 3580 with me in it. D/A was i believe around 1600 .

Its a great street / strip converter..

Boomcase.. Can't argue with 1.5x 60 ft times. My research tells me it's a great converter. Just need to decide if I'm keeping the B1 cam or going bigger which would then decide where my shift extension needs to be.

don't let the cam be the factor. Even a stock cam motor likes the big shift extension on the YTP series. Get what you are comfortable with.

I have a PT4000 with a 2.8 STR. It is not very loose in MO. It is the perfect daily driver/ track converter for me.

I have the SS4000 . With stock internals and the stock 10 bolt with 3:23 gears it is real loose for daily driving.
It seems looser than the Vig 3600 that i had before it.

I have not broken anything at the track with E/T Streets(Yet), and i have had this vertor for more than 1 year. With lots of Nitrous launches and quite a lot of street use/abuse.

I even have a picture of my car showing air under the front tire(s) on it's way to a 1.54 60ft .

It would be better for loosness with your 3:73 gears,for sure.

Best track time with full weight and stock internals (N/A) is a 12.2 @ 110.

I really like the convertor,just giving my 2 cents worth.

WOW this is the first time I've seen someone say one of the PT series isn't loose and the SS4000 is loose.Different opinions from different people I guess. I like that 1.54 60 ft out of a bolt-on car though. Should be even lower with my cam and 3.73's with a tighter feel too. Very tempting.
Looks like with the better 60 fts and the better shift extension I should get at least 2 tenths over my current Vig.

I used to have a Vig2800, Moved to the Vig3600. Didn't care for it at all. Felt way to loose and inefficient to me. Moved on to the SS3800. It was alright and I had no complaints until I installed the PT4000. IT pulls hard all through the RPM range. really helped the midrange alot.

What did you gain at the track going from the Vig 2800 to the SS3800 or PT4000 and what are your mods?

Hard to tell. I'm not one of those that likes to do one mod at a time. I had bolt ons with my Vig2800 best full wieght with Nittos was an 8.2 1/8th mile run. I did heads/ cam and converter swap to the SS3800 all together. I personally wasn't liking the 60' times of 1.6x with it so I switched to the PT4000. Can't say so far it has helped much with the 60' but I went from a 7.5 best to a 7.3 best n/a full weight !spare. My car is heavy and I'm about 280 myself so.
