Stalled auto vs. stock clutch, yes ... stock converter vs. stock clutch, pretty close ... stalled auto vs. grippy clutch, stout rear end, gears, 6000rpm clutch dumps and a driver who can shift, and you've got a race.

I'm the only one of my friends that thinks a car can be fast with an auto. I personally prefer to be in total control over what gear my car is in, but i respect the auto's.

with the 6 speed car making about 100hp more you have a race.... Same power for power...Stalled auto every time from a dig...

ok so seen first 6 pages or so and dont want to keep reading but saw people say dont shift the through gears on your own. I'm wondering why not. noob question probably but oh well.

side note im looking for a good 3500-4000 stall that will work good with a "daily driver" that gets drove about 5-10 miles in town a day and some highway driving on weekends. I almost have full bolt ons and cam'ing it soon if that matters.

For the last 10 years I've owned a manual with a twin disk clutch and going to an auto has been pretty relaxing. But I will have to admit, I miss having a clutch. Some days I try to talk myself into selling...auto's just aren't as much fun on the freeway or messing around town.

well i got both.........i daily drive a M6 LS2 GTO and I race an A4 95 Z........

The goat is a blast around town to drive with the 6 speed.......but i will say this........its fun to drive on the track but it will never be as fast as an auto on launch........and 6 speeds break parts......big time!!!

buttttt........my a4 camaro is a manual valve body so im still shifting the car and it will walk all over about 99% of the sticks on the street...........even from a roll........anybody giving that a4 cars are junk bs is just ignorant and should really stop watching fast and the furious

Dude: sweet man those autos suck. i'm glad you got this manual.
me: yep
Dude: man, its an ss too? oh sick. i bet that thing would dust a z28.
me: yep

i get the upper end of it with them complimenting, and im not gonna go through all the trouble of explaining ss = z28 and auto + stall =

me: its got a chip too (messing with them)
Dude: OMFG WTF WOW AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

kinda sad, kinda comical, kinda rude of me. i've had it for 2 years and never met anyone in person who could talk cars without using the term holly double pumper, nawwwws, or chip.

hopefully someday i can make an ls1 meet and finally be the noob again

I've heard that manually shifting an automatic can overheat it and cause damage. I absolutely do not know if that is true, but I have heard it from multiple people...

For the original topic, I think age plays a big part of it. I admit I used to think that way, but I've grown out of it, and now have one manual and one auto, and I love driving them both pretty equally. Also, the fact that some pony/sports cars only come in manual trim probably adds to the thinking that it has to be manual to be 'good'...

It shouldn't do anything different unless your holding it in gear. It's just pointless to shift throught the gears, because it's not going to make the car faster unless your holding it in gear longer (wich would also be harder on it). Times when your racing when you should shift manually are when roll racing or if your going from a launch and you have wheel spin and you don't want it to shift to second when it starts to spin, but still after I shift to second I just go ahead and put it in d. That's the only times I manually shift my car. At the track I leave it in d and go.

My ss was a 6 spd, now it has a rpm 60 with a 3800 triple disk vigilante stall. I only got to drive it 75 feet or so then had to leave.
