4L60E to TH350 Swap??
Alright guys. The TH400 sticky is waaayyy outdated. Has there been any breakthroughs and new write ups for swapping in a th350/400? The only things I can find is you can extend or get a new crossmember, stock d/s work with long tailshaft housings and very little else. anyone have any links to useful information? I am about to do the swap. I was able to get a th350 for free. I'm taking the swap on.

I've posted a bit on this topic, answering other ppls ?'s.
Whats needed:
Trans
Converter
Flexplate, either a 98, or a Dual Bolt Pattern (TCI, ATI, Fidenza etc...)
Dipstick, 36" Lokar works great (Jegs/Summit, call and specify 36" length) or Madman.
Crossmember, stock one can be modded but its heavy. BMR or Yank tubular.
Speedo Option1, use a wheel speed sensor, cut the wires and rig it up losing ABS, or Option 2 call Carl Rossler and get a 9" tailshaft with VSS mount and use stock VSS.
Shifter, pick it. I'm using a B&M Pro-Ratchet.
Tuning, I heard you can write it as an M6, however I just deleted the A4 codes and used my same tune.
Wiring for Reverse Lights and Neutral Safety Switch (NSS), there are a few posts in here about which wires get cut and go to the Micro Switches mounted on new shifter.
I would recommend getting ARP M6 Flywheel bolts to use on the new flexplate. The TCI and ATI plates are slightly thicker and may or may not require a washer, but definately use red locktite.
Thats really it. Its so much easier to pull a TH350 than the 60E, more room around the housing bolts.

But, you can probally find a th350 used for cheap and have it rebuilt good for less than a new one. I happen to already have one, and tired of tearing up my 4l60e. Spent too much money trying to keep it alive.

um..probally around ~380ish. But I'm getting tuned at the end of the month. I'll know more for sure then. But I'm cam only F14 and most have resulted in ~380-400. Depending on mods and other factors. I'm not looking for a dyno queen. It will show its true self on the track.

i am about to do the swap with my TH350..had one hell of a time trying to find a 9" tail housing! But the problem I ran into is the TA mount. Is there a way around the mount w/out buying another TA?
Rebelord, I know what you mean by tearing up these 4l60es, just killed my 4th one (built). Time for an upgrade!

BMR makes a transmission conversion crossmember that has a mount for the TA. I went with one for the TH400 so I could keep my BMR adjustable TA that I already had.

hi..
I am intending to do the swap with th350 tranny for my 1999 camaro. I have got the tranny along with a dual pattern TCI converter(part # TCI-241000)
My question is, would my converter fit with the stock flexplate??
Also, summitracing and ls1speed are offering a crank adapter for the conversion. What is the use of that adapter and do I need it if I have got the 98 flexplate??

You can get a spacer for the TC, or get a TC built for the application. 98 has correct bolt patter. Stock DS will work with TH350 9" tailshaft. Rossler has a 9" tailshaft with VSS bung welded in so speedo will work and ABS, if you use the speed sensor from the front wheel "free speedo fix" you lose the ABS.

i used
lokar 36" dipstick
9" tail th350 basic stock rebuild with shift kit
98 flexplate
tci 4000 race converter for sbc
and extended my stock cossmember
i didnt use a crank spacer and i havent had any problems yet. i just used red threadlocker and a lock washer on the tc bolts.
everyone is buying built th400 and 350s, but in my opinion i dont think they are needed. i have a ton of friends that make more power than me and use STOCK th350s with a shift kit and have nnnnnnooooooo problems. not to say a 600 rwhp car dont need a built one, but i think under 500 they will handle. i would like to hear other people opinion on this.
