sorry to hear that, it realy is a pretty good trans it just need a few upgrades to keep up with motor mods and abuse. one guy at our shop has done over 100 of these and they work great.

Much easier to tune and get good driveability out of a big cam with a stalled auto. If I could swing it, I would switch in a heartbeat. The stall soaks up all of the low rpm surging that you get from a big cam. If you are going daily driver with mild cam then I would go M6 for fun factor.

I haven't found an M6 with similar horsepower numbers yet that could come within a half a second of my times. The only ones that come close are putting down at least 30 more rwhp, and they're only 5 tenths behind me.

Auto for the drag-racing win...

In my opinion, I would get a 6 speed because there a lot easier to work on, less complicated than the auto trans, and a 6 speed is just a lot funner to drive around in. Auto is good for consistency, like for racing on the drag strip and stuff like that. 6 speed is good for cruisin around and just having fun with it. See, I dont race, so I would get a 6 speed for sure!

I guess I'll stay bias, however I made the switch from a stalled a4 to a M6 this past weekend. My car I think is much faster with the M6, but with the a4 I could launch better which propels good et's. Once I install the 9" I think I could get decent 60ft enough to run my low 11's. I can say driving from Ft. Worth, Texas to Alexandria, LA. my car averaged 28 mpg driving 75-80. Also, with the stalled a4 the car was loud, but now I have control of the exhaust note. Finally, my car feels more streetable with the M6. I think if you drag race an a4 might be your ticket, but if you drive your car regular and visit the track 3-4 times a year stay with the M6.

stay auto- there is quite a bit of cost converting. I am going to be going th400 this year, and my 6spd will be going in a project car of some sort.

What about a five speed auto(5L60E)? Is that a good option. There's an '02 Formula A4 at my dealership that I'm looking at, and if swapping to a 5-speed is an option down the road, than I'm sold. The only thing is I do like shifting myself, but if I can get better launches out of an auto, and can make it go faster, that'll make me really happy.

I think a stall converter gives your engine max torque from a dead stop. Does it do anything besides that? How much are they and how much to install? Just trying to learn and I don't know much...thx.

Chicks love the guys who win races and keep a hand free to touch the erogenous zones of thier female anatomy. They are not impressed by guys who are always grabbing thier stick. Nuff said
