Default converter not locking up...

well i just took the car out and the converter wouldnt lock up. i drove it earlier and it locked up fine. its a fuddle 3400. i checked the fluid and it looked good. i guess ill just let it sit a while and go see if it works. ever since i got it it usually make a grinding noise when it locks up. i wonder if something grinded off inside or something. i dunno if any one has anything to say please say. thanks

I get all the same things with my fuddle 3400, but no grinding. it seems to be the way I accelerate sometimes that sets it off...if you come to a stop or go really fast and come down it works again.....wierd...

Sounds like if you have a buck or surging problem that you may have a problem with your car mis firing or some other tuning issue that will prevent you TCC from locking up.

You need to get someone with a scanner that can manually lockup your converter. That way you can narrow it down to whether or not the converter won't lock up or the computer isn't allowing it.

If it's catching misfires above the current threshold (common with bigger cams), the pcm will not allow the converter to lock. This can happen without throwing an SES light too.....

Ideally yes, it would be much easier to trouble shoot if you had software to scan with. Plus you would have the ability to "force" converter lockup to see if it'll even do it. If it won't, you know you have a converter problem. If you can manually lock it with software and it stays locked like it's supposed to, then you have a tuning problem.

I am having the EXACT same problems with mine currently, though I'm not throwing an SES light. The fluid is a good color, and the level is fine...I'm wondering if I'm having the same problem?

No lockup, most likely misfires. "Grinding", clutch chatter
which can be cut down by eliminating the PWM function
(applies at less than full pressure) and using a good
anti-chatter formula ATF. I had to bump my misfire
thresholds (OK, knock 'em out of the park) to fix the
same thing on mine, and PWM was already off (98% min)
from the previous converter.

Environmental conditions alter the state of tune and
can make misfires come and go.
