I'm saving $/waiting for the ext. warranty to be up, but when I do get a stall, probably around 3500, will it make me even worse in AutoX? I usually just do the cheap events, a ton of tight turns, usually no faster than 70ish.

I think the right converter can let you do better. Anything
that lets you modulate torque out the back with your foot,
is good. A stock converter and stock shiftpoints, you can
find places where more pedal does nothing and then even
more, kickdown & lose it.
I prefer a low STR, which people call loose but it lets RPM
slide out and torque slide up pretty much following the gas
pedal, smoothly. A high STR converter is going to run up
RPM more before coupling and then bring wheel torque on,
hard. Great if you like that kind of thing.
You ought to try and find some examples that you can get
to drive around a parking lot, see if you think you could
control it in an autoX situation.

Id Say 3500.. 2.0-2.2 Str Should Be Good But You Will Definately Need Atleast 1 Massive Tranny Cooler Prob. 2
Also Unhook Your Stock Cooler When You Run The Aftermarket Ones As It Will Help Keep The Temps Down

I have been AutoXing since 2001 with my stalled auto. I would recommend a stall in the range of 3000-3500, but the STR would need to be tighter then most like. I would say a 2.2-2.5. Why? When you AutoX, sliding the back end out is not a good thing, and having to give the car more throttle with a lower STR can result in just that ... and ON/OFF switch. With a higher STR, your "efficiency" will be closer down low and you will be able to moderate the throttle much better for taking sweeping turns (either increasing or reducing radius). If you go to Championship events, you typically get three runs in, not enough time to really heat up your trans fluid. I have tested this out before, so a typical cooler is only needed, you won't have to over do it. If you go to the Practice events, then you will need all the cooling you can get, as they will allow you as many runs as you can squeeze in the ~2 hours per group session. Selecting a converter for AutoX or any other racing apart from drag/street racing is totally different, as you are using the powerband much differently then WOT. Good luck!
