looking for a ratchet shifter in a 4l60e
i belive ratchet shifter is the correct term for it, an example would be like a B&M quicksilver shifter.i only find them for the older camaros with the 700r4's.i know the 4l60E is basically the same thing as the 700r4 but was just wandering if the electronic shift on the 4L60Es didnt allow the shifter, i just want to be able to hit the shifter forward or whaterver and have it shift gears to make it feel more like a manual car, so if yall could tell me where they sell them that would be great, thanks.

I like the fact I can program my tranny to shift when I want. Leave in drive and go. But that Hurst pistol-grip would look good sticking up out of my console if they made it for a 4L60E.

It takes some modding to the console but it can be done, there is no direct replacement for the 4l60e
I used a few different ratchet shifters and ended up settling with a Chetah Turbo Action shifter.. for my setup hands down the best shifter i have used

Not sure why anyone would think negatively about a Ratchet Shifter. Nor can I think of a good reason to not use one in a High Performance or Racing application.
It is best if the PCM is left to do the shifting in a 4L60E. If it is shifted manually, without a MVB, then it will produce very inconsistant lap times.
Now... all of that being said, just before Thanksgiving we converted one of our customers Stage 2 builds to a Full Manual unit. The car is a '57 Bel Air so it is not a good candidate for comparison to a F-Body by any means when considering aesthetics. But when considering performance in a car that sees as much track time as it does street time... well it's a no brainer.
Here are some pics of the B&M Pro Ratchet Shifter we installed in that car. Prior to the installation it had a Hurst Quarter Stick in it. Which is very cumbersome IMHO. This shifter does not require 2 hands to manage the Reverse Lock Out. Pop it into Neutral, hit the Lock Out lever with your thumb and move it into Reverse... very smooth operation.
(He will have another boot made for the shifter perch himself.)
That car ran a personal best last fall of 7.51 (N/A) 1/8 mile. Cool story... the owner is the 2nd owner and has owned it since it was 8 months old... he is 69 years young and runs the snot out of it! It has a very well built Xtreme Horsepower LS2 with a Fast 90/90 setup. Thats the original enamel paint too. Cool car huh?
Any ways... I have not been asked to do an aftermarket shifter in a 4th gen car yet. But... the way to go is to begin with a Manual Console and then customize the boot if necessary. I could be wrong so feel free to kick it around.
I am sure we'll do one very soon. So stay tuned. Just as soon as I get something worth while done I'll get some pics up.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread, just wanted to demonstrate that indeed a Ratchet Shifter is appropriate and can be applied in the correct applications. Many shifters these days can be converted from a 3 speed to a 4 speed setup by simply switching the Gate Plate! We do it often in old school apps.... as a matter of fact we did it in this car when we 1st built his unit in the spring of last year... the guys that did his original conversion only had a 3 speed gate in his shifter! I'll try to get some pics up to show you guys... I'm sure we have an old shifter laying around here somewhere.

And the only reason they are necessary is when you have a MVB and you want to make sure you dont upshift too far when manually shifting?
Got it. It might be worth it just for the looks though! lol
