Default Stall or gears

Stall or gears, which one would a DD benefit from the most? I dont plan on taking it to the track. I'm just looking for better street performance I was thinking either 3.42 gears or a Yank SS3200 stall. I'm kinda leaning towards the stall right now. I now a stall works well from a dig but I'm not sure how they will perform from a roll compared to the 3.42's.

I have a TCI3000 stall in my 99 ws6 and love it. Mine has the stock 3.23's. I have no dead spots like i did with the stock stall. I would say go with the stall and maybe get some gears later.

Well, if you're looking for "go fast," it's the stall - no question. But, if you have 2.73 gears, and responsiveness in general daily driving is important to you, get the gears. I did my gears first and the difference was night and day.

The stall gave me more bang for the buck for both street and strip . It literally woke the car up and dropped my ET at the track and gives me the jump I need on the street, with no daily driving compromise! I love my Fuddle 3400

Does a stall only help from a dead stop or does it flash to stall rpm every time you floor it?

it will flash whenever you floor it, from a roll or standstill. I has 2.73's with my vig 3600 and it was wicked. the car was always in the powerband regardless of the speed I was going. by far the best seat of the pants and performance mod for a stock car. with 2.73's though it will be looser in traffic and take a bit more revs to move along with traffic.

How loose do you think a Yank SS3200 would be with 2.73's?

It will be a loose feelin.A 3500 or 3600 stall would be good from a stop and roll.Just remember you need some good tires to get it to the ground.I just switch from 2.73 to 3.73 and I love the switch. It isnt as bad as people tell me on the highway.I like the the 2.73 but hate that long as 2nd gearing. If money isnt a issue I would get the stall and tires and beef up the tranny. You should try to find someone with either gears or stall to let you drive it.I dont think you will be dissapointed with either.I see that your stock I would do lid, cutout, ported tb.with 3.73 I dont have to give it much gas anymore like the 2.73 and I actually accelerate faster

stall
because after you add a stall you wont gain as much from the gears. i kinda liked my stall better with the 2.73's. I ran near the same time with 3.42's as 2.73's and the looseness was kinda cool to me around town.

Great comments here. I've got a '00 Z/28 A4 w/2.73s and have been wondering about gears vs stall and how much stall!

I did it the other way around and never looked back. I hated the sluggish feel of the 2.73's around town, and a looser stall would have only amplified the effect. The 3.42's really perked the car up and did not cost any mpg in town. Adding the converter further improved it by eliminating the dead spot and keeping the car right in its powerband.

Thanks for the help. I think im going to go with the gears first then stall later. I dont think I would like the loose feeling of the 2.73's and stall.

I'm in the same situation as you and look at it the same way. Most of my trips are 5 mile jaunts and having a little etra umph feeling would be nice. Not 1.6 60's from every stop light haha.

Since I'm stuck using all weather tires 1.6 60's are out of the question
