No... if the pump was broken it would not supply the necessary pressure required to engage the clutch packs!
And checking the linkage is a good idea, but if it's a fresly rebuilt or new unit that should not be the issue.

How much fluid did you put in it?
A new rebuild uses like 3 gallons. thats 12 quarts
Just check how much you put in......
Also, did you put a quart in the converter before you put that in?
Did you turn and push in on the converter and are you sure you felt three clunks as stator, input shaft and pump became seated one by one?
You may still have a chance........
Check that fluid first...if you put in somewhere near three gallons already then I'm afraid I agree with Performabuilt

Other than taking it out of the vehicle, if you rebuild the pump it will only cost you $50 possibly in parts and since its the first thing you remove from the tranny other than the pan, it's not that bad. However, I don't want to mislead you though, I've been wrenching for the past 28 years as a hobby
You may find this too difficult.
If you ship it back to who built it, I would figure a ballpark guess excluding freight would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $300-$400 for parts + labor.....
The professional tranny guys out there can chew me up any time they want now

Not going to chew at all. It wont be real cheap however its done . But a person with moderate mechanical skils and some guidance should be able to change a complete pump . Generally with our customers unless they just want to send it back thats what we do just sell them a pump then walk them through changing it and checking to make sure the converter is undamaged. So far so good it has happened a few times. Its probably close to if not the most common installation mistake.

That happened to me about 5 years ago. I broke the pump but didn't know so I had the car towed to a trans shop and it cost me a little over 600 dollars. Life lesson is what that was. That hasn't happened again.
