how bad a burnouts for transmission's
i know this cant be answered exactly cause no matter how much we want it to be not all transmissions are built equal. but in general how much and what does a burn out break

I've never heard of anyone ruining a tranny just doing a burnout. The only thing I can think that might be detrimental is doing a burnout with a big converter for a long period of time. It would create a lot of heat which is never a good thing. Other than that, I don't see why it would hurt anything. I also don't see 120 MPH for any period of time hurting a tranny. Maybe a builder can give a more educated answer.

I have always been taught that you should do your burnout until you get into 3rd gear and then come out of the water box. At this point the transmissions internals are turning 1 to 1. This is a good practise with any trans. The issue with doing a burnout in low gear only is that when the tires hit dry pavement the low roller can be damaged. With a TF8 MOPAR it is not recommended to use low gear at all. These transmissions will blow a low roller in a heartbeat. I have always been told to start out in second gear with that trans because of the issue with the roller. I'm sure there will be some that disagree, but this is what my years of being in the business has lead me to believe to be true. As far as the 120mph thing never really thought about that one. I don't see a problem with it as long as you stay in high gear with the TCC engaged. Also as long as the temps stay reasonable I don't see a problem. Good luck guys. Vince

depends on how you do your burnouts. Are you revving it up in neutral then dropping it into drive?
If you do a burnout in Manual 1st and hold the RPMS at 6000 you will smoke the trans real quick. This dude i know went through 3 or 4 trannies in 20k miles doing this before realizing why the hell they kept breaking.
When I do burnouts on my GTO i usually start out in drive, then when it is in 2nd gear smoking the tires, right at about 6000 RPM when its about to shift to third, i pull it down into manual 2nd and hold the revs at 6500 until im done smoking em. dont know if thats bad or not but i blew my last trans in 10k miles after doing about 100 burnouts.

I have seen when a rear end brakes it will mess up the transmissions internal components. We have a test car we use that every time it blows a rear the trans and converter get opened up for inspection. I have found that the low roller almost always has flat spots in it from the rollers. Just a heads up. Vince

When the rear end "breaks" how does it break? You mean the gears lose teeth or what? Does it lock up the rear end just like pulling the ebrake? Im afraid my rear in the GTO isn't gonna last long. I did over 200 burnouts, big and small with it. Its not making any noise or anything. I change the oil every 5000 with Torco Racing Gear Oil too. hmm.

Back to being serious ... I usually start in first because that gets the tires spinning the fastest quickest with the least wheel hop, bring it up to about 5000rpm, shift into second, bring it up to about the same, hold it there for a bit, shift into third and roll out.
