I was wondering how do a stall converter work and how do they increase speed and save gas?

not sure if they save gas or increase actual speed, but try a search or check out the stickies up top.

Ive always wondered this havent found a clean explanation but then again haven't really looked.

What I do know is most will not increase MPG, unless you go lower.

they do not save gas at all. lol, and alot of cars run lower mph and dyno lower. But end up with faster ETs. I'm no expert, but a torque converter is a fluid coupling with a turbine, stator, and impeller (pump). Altering those three things changes how it transfers power from the engine to the transmission.

Maybe someone else can explain the whole STR and stall speed thing.

That's what mine did! Lower MPH but 3 tenths faster thru the traps. I'm fine with that though! MPH doesn't win! Mine doesn't seem to affect my MPG at all, but I'm almost all highway commuting with stock gears. The car launches like a MO FO now though.

on the highway you are locked up, not gonna be any difference from stock. only if its unlocked alot will the gas mileage suck *****.
