Default Transmission Question

Hey Guys,

On my way back from work, I was able to do my usual 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 shifting. After the first light, I decided to go up through 5th gear, which failed to engage. Then I tried 6th and it didn't engage either.

I could shift into the gear with no grinding or anything, but I had no engagement.

Please tell me this is a relatively easy (and low cost) fix!

Thanks!

Adrian

check your clutch fluid reservoir first and make sure there is fluid in there, is there any burning clutch smell? How many miles on the car?

I'll check it out soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have 82K and some change on it. The clutch HAS been producing a smell lately with little aggression. I figured it was time to shop for a heavy duty clutch...

I do mostly highway miles and am pretty easy on the car...

I'll let you know how it goes soon. Thanks again!

So you think it's just the clutch? Wouldn't I have problems with the other gears?

Hmm, well 5th and 6th are overdriven if that matters, you have absolutely no problems driving and getting into 1-4?

call luke at lindsey do the ls7 clutch flywheel and just change your slave cylinder it will all cost you about 800 parts 50$ for beer pizza and getting your friends to help you for 12 hours one day............... also when was the last time you changed your trans fluid. Once your change your trans fluid with your new clutch and get rid of that super bolky old flywheel your car will feel like new and while your changing that it wouldn't hurt to just do the shifter and you can find one on here or somewhere good for 250 i have the uuc and alot of other mods and am very happy with it all

You think the clutch at slave cylinder will do it?

Anyone else had the same problem I had?

Thanks a ton for the replies!

I would definitely not go with a standard LS7 clutch kit unless you have too (like I did), the Monster/Spec clutches are much better.

My monster stage 2 kit..rated at 525hp and tq from gforce was 990.00 i think shipped to my door. I got the c6 kit, that you have to get, and the lighten 18lb fly wheel. took one week to get it all together I have 1250 for clutch arp fly wheel bolts and pressure plate bolts along with creative steel motor mounts and tranny mount. from what I have read its well worth the price. I called the local caddy dealer who I bought the car from and to replace the clutch and labor was a tad over 3g's just fyi.

Labor at a normal shop should be around $400...no need to pay the "stealership" tax.

the lowest quote I received was a flat 500 for 8hrs on the book. I have a buddy that works for a shop and they let him do stuff on the side so Im just going to give him some money and beer and get it done.

I'll be shopping around for clutches here soon... I'll have to go back and bitch at the dude who serviced my trans a month ago. I took a look at my slave cylinder and it's empty.

I actually have a brand new replacement clutch that came with the car when I bought it. I need to upgrade, but if someone would like it, I'll sell it cheap...

So you guys feel pretty good it's not a syncro or other internals? Just clutch and fluid?

Adrian

PS. Thanks a TON for all the feedback. I can always count on you guys...

As clutch material burns off, the clutch fluid in the slave reservoir will go down. This is because the fluid is taking up the space that the clutch material used to be in (it takes more fluid in the slave to get the clutch to where it needs to be.

Aah...I'm learning a lot.

Thanks for all the help...

I am still wanting to make sure that I understand this right... Having a bad clutch will cause 5-6 (and I just tried reverse and it didn't work) to crap out? I have 1-4 working fine so far...

Sorry for my ignorance. I just want to make sure I understand the situation right before I order parts.

Again, thanks.

Honestly, I would bring it in, a bad clutch should be causing more problems then just 5-6.

I just spoke with a friend that owns a shop in MN. It's sounding like my slave cylinder and clutch may be the culprit. My clutch master cylinder is empty, so I'll top it off tonight and see if I get any results...

Time to research on some of the remote bleeders you guys have posted about...

I'll post if I find any new information.

Thanks a ton for all your suggestions.

Get the C6 remote bleeder from LAPD. It works great!
