Default Questions about buying a V.

I've been looking for a little while for a car. Is there a big difference in an 04 and 06? I've found a 20k 04 and a 40k 06 for around the same price. Both are stock and look to be very clean. They wont be raced much, I have another car for that. They may, however see some aggressive driving from time to time. I know the rears are the weak links in the 04's, that my only concern. And then there's the LS6 compared to the LS2.
Any suggestions?

The '04 has the attenna on the rear window and cruise control on the steering wheel, while the '06 has the attenna on the roof and the steering wheel has radio controls. Those, the motor, and a revised diff for '06 are the biggest differences.

If the '06 is the same price, I'd go with that one ... all else being equal, mind you.

The price is about the same. The 06 has 25k more miles on it and is about 5 more hours away. I may be better off getting the 06.

Only if it had been replaced with an 06+ rear.

My 05 had the antenna for XM on the roof Most likely the 04 has had the diff upgraded. The motor is the only main difference between the two.

So the 04 has 40k miles and the 06 has 55k miles? The 06 is 5 hours farther. I would lean towards the 04 since it is a pretty low mileage V....just run a warranty report from a dealer and see if the diff has been updated to the 06-07 type.

I assume you need the vin to run the report. The dealer is supposed to be checking on warranty work for me.

I just found out that the 04 has not had the diff. updated to the later version. Is that something that something that I need to be concerned about?

I know I wouldn't want the original diff but on the other forum there is a thread about original diff Vs and plenty of people have chimed in saying theirs are fine. Keep in mind, if you launch it hard it will break eventually. There is a reason GM went through the different revisions and even made the latest version of the diff in late 08 (weren't even manufacturing Vs then).

You DO NOT WANT the original Diff if you have a choice. That and the LS2 will always dyno 10-20 ft-lbs higher on the torque side.

And it should... it was made for towing.

Joking aside - the 06 is a better value and more reliable by default even with the higher mileage. (assuming it hasn't been beaten hard)
