Intake Filter Opinions
I currently have a Volant CAI and the filter that comes with it is tiny IMO so I want to upgrade it a touch.
Here is what I have now: http://volant.com/edetail.asp?ID=56&ptype=f
Here is what I'm considering:
Volant: http://www.volant.com/edetail.asp?ID=68&ptype=f
OR
K&N: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=RU-3050
OR
Spectre: http://www.spectreperformance.com/in...tall-blue.html
Spectre also has a 7": http://www.spectreperformance.com/in...tall-blue.html
All are about the same price (I could sell my current unused one for same as these cost so it will be about a direct swap). Question is any opinions on the better brand or just filter is a filter is a filter...?

If you have a Lingenfelter airbox, try an AMSOIL EaAU 6080 or 6081 (1" flange or 0.625" flange). It's FAR better than your typical cellulose filter, based on oil particulate analysis bought and paid for by a fellow CTS-V owner. The 6081 will definitely fit, based on conversations with people that have them--I don't know about the 6080.

Brad (C66Racing) is an authorized retailer and will give you a couple of bucks off. While you're at it, ask him about the Preferred Customer Program, which costs about $20/year and is totally worthwhile if you buy more than 3 gallons of oil per year. You might as well pick up 12 quarts of AMSOIL Dominator 10W-30 while you're at it.
The Spectre 9604 is a great addition. Also recommend buying an AMSOIL EaPF15 pre-filter to knock out some of that large diameter debris before it screws up the delicate layers in the EaAU 6081.

All that said I want to get my ride back on the dyno after I put my FAST 90 intake on and see where my numbers are. If I see a dip then I'll pull the Volant tube and stick one of those silicon tubes like fuzzy has.
My rationale with the filter size is too small can cause restriction but too big can't hurt so why not go bigger especially when it won't cost me anything. Maybe I'm just chasing snake oil but figured while the car is up on blocks for a few more weeks might as well swap!

When I first installed my Maggie I had it going to the intake box. I took it to get dyno tuned and the tuner said the airflow was horrible. I removed the airbox and put an cone filter on it and he said doing so improved it dramatically and it was able to get more power out of the car. Before then, you couldn't tell me a CAI was beneficial, but now I think otherwise.

semi on topic:
saw a thread elsewhere regarding this, has anybody had any experience with it?

apparently a guy saw one on a turbo LSX baja truck. I would think it might restrict flow, but maybe not and keeps intake temps down for people that dont have a proper box.
