What's Up With F-body Prices?
I've been looking at the auto trader for the past couple of months because i'm looking into getting my very first LS1 F-body. However, the prices seem to be very high. My budget is around $16,000 to $20,000 tops. I thought I could get a decent T/A, but the prices of most are $20k+. For that price i could get a very nice 96 C4 (very tempting) I've noticed most of them haven't moved, so either the market is slow or there over priced. Anyone else feel the same. I will be buying an LS1 F-body sometime in July/August so we'll see what it's like by then. I'm hoping the market is strong by that time, so i have no problems selling my 96 SS!

If you planning on selling your 96, do it soon! By the time July/Aug rolls around everyone has bought their toy cars for the season. The only people who buy late are looking for good deal, hoping someone doesn't want to pay storage rates. If you are able sell you SS now and sit on the money to the fall.

I have a 98 LS1 A4 hardtop forsale soon. Just have to put a stock motor back in. It needs a paintjob that I can do or not do. It has 104k miles.
I am looking for 12k cdn. I am in Ajax, you can take a look if you wish.

Wow! That's a nice car. Cool color to. However, I'm looking for a 6 speed and a T/A! Pesticide, you make a very valid point. I'm not able to sell now and sit on the money. Oh well, we'll see when the time gets there!

Hey there. Not sure if you are still interested in buying a T/A 6speed. I am considering selling mine. Read the post about it ( just posted ) ifyou already haven't. Lemme know if you are interested. It's a great car with low kms.

Thanks anyway, but I'm going to pass. I've done a lot of thinking and Ill be buying a C5 in the fall. With some of the prices of T/A's, I can get a nice Corvette for a couple thousand more. I'm going to wait till the fall, so I can save up some more money. There's a 97 Corvette with 75,000km's, 6-speed,red and they want $25,000. Some people want $30,000+ for their T/A's....no thanks!

I agree, if you are selling, sell here, if you are buying, go down south to buy.
Firefighter1, if you are thinking of selling, do it NOW! Your car is only going down in value as time goes on. Unless you find someone who is specifically looking for a 96 SS with auto, most people are just going to regard it as a 10 year old Camaro....

Camaros go for a lot less here, as it seems a lot more people are selling theirs.
And a note for the Americans - Cars generally go for much less in America - it is a fact that once currency conversion and everything is taken into account - cars seel for 5-7.5k CHEAPER in the states ( brand new ) - and the justification for this? There is none. Cars have always been more expensive in Canada for the same reason we have higher taxes - we pay it and don't do a thing about it. The government has also made it very expensive for us to bring them across the border, to lessen the savings incurred from a corss border purchase. It really is a lose-lose situation for the Canadian consumer.

I really recommend buying a car from the states. I just did it a couple months ago to get my 2000 SS, 82k miles for $11000 US - converted to something like 12136 Canadian. Had to pay 7% GST at the border and a $309 fee (100 for AC tax and 209 for Canadian certification at Canadian Tire). Also had to pay sales tax when I registered it. If you can deal with the formalities, like having to have the title at the border 72 hours before crossing and waiting 10 days for the RIV to send the Canadian certification, then it is well worth it. I've already been offered $20000 for my car but would never sell it.

Kars10_4 if you can get $20k for an SS with 130+Km go for it! In Ontario the prices are lower. Ouchburns car is a steel for $20k given there is at least $10,000 in top of the line parts and labour. In addition his car only has 80km.

I would sell it but I'd been dreaming about it for 3 years before so making a little money a consideration. It's also a the only LS1 Camaro around here, not to mention SS. There was a WS6 around but the guy sold it last summer. I've also got other offers in the 18-19 range. General consensus is that if I put a $18000 price tag on it, it would be sold in a week. Rich fishermen that work on a cash basis hahaha.

I'm never selling my baby. However if/when the time comes and I'm looking for a formula T/A stripper car for the track I might have to take a walk down south. Prices are remaining high here for some reason. I bought my car for 24,000 with 42k on it in 2003. I could still sell the car for 20,000 with 80k on it in 2006 and it would probably move out.
