damm it boy, how hard is too tune this carb set-up with the 454ci. or how do you move the timing. i have a 72 with a 5.3 & carb but i only used the 1-6 curb chips it works realy good but we have a 427lsx laying around the shop we want to install in a colorado carburetor style.

What all is involved in the swap to the distributor. Is it something that someone can do on there own. Do you have the part numbers for everything involved. I know its a lot to ask, but I would like to go this route. Also is the 454 you used the one that GM sells as a crate motor short block?

No its not the GM crate shortblock that is currently available. The front engine cover is a GM piece...it comes with the necessary cam extension to drive the distibutor. The water pump spacers are from Wegner automotive. The distributor is a ford 302 piece.
Once you get the front cover, it has the #'s for the remaining parts listed for you. Its an easy afternoon swap really.

Great runs Collin. When you're ready to go a little bigger on the cam, let me know. I'm ready when you are.

yeah, should be fine. i'm running a 6010 box in my car, i love it! i wished i could data log with it though...seems like it wouldn't have been hard to put a "record" function in the box when it has gauges showing you timing, rpm, and manifold pressure right on the screen...

that's for you to decide. what is the combo? do you race it? is the extra tenth or two worth the extra 400-800 bucks over another carb? could that be spent somewhere else? these are all questions only you can answer.
#55
Its just not about extra power. There supposed to be a little tamer on the street too.

IMHO, I'm sure one could get the same performance out of a well tuned dominator, but I doubt it could match the SV1 street manners.

Greg shot this last weekend @ KCIR...many thanks bro.
The car really picked up after switching to the pro-systems SV-1 over my old Barry Grant 1030. Previous best was 9.52 @ 139 in -400 DA.
Only change was the carb and we ran last weekend in +800 air. Still running a Pat G spec'd hydraulic cam, all motor and only 92 octane pumpgas.
1.280 60' footbraking
