A friend borrowed my cam sensor to see if his was bad, installed mine and said there was nothing wrong with his since it did the same ****, he said it was aextension harness issue on his vette, so i nstalled his since he was too lazy to remove mine and install his and i am assuming that his was actually bad.

Zone, your having the SAME PROBLEM I AM, with the 6012. I have try'd multiple sensors, tested for the signal at the box, checked and double shecked connections/grounds, and STILL have the cam sensor fail code, and intermittent no start/backfire
If you solve the problem let me know! I wont be able to start working on my car again till it warms up and all the snow melts.......maybe mid april......

I was on the phone with a tech for about an hour while I checked stuff and fed him info. MSD tech said the box was no good, so I returned it, and the replacement does the same thing.............
I have also verified that the msd box is receiving good voltage (more than 11) even during cranking.
I have not try'd swapping the outside wires in the cam sensor harness plug. I have read that this can be a possible solution to the problem.
Good luck

I think I have read about this in another thread somewhere. I think it turned out that the MSD box can be fussy about the voltage drop caused by the starter motor when trying to start the engine. I think they put an extra powerful battery in the car and it solved the problem.

I have read that as well, and in my case I have verified over 11 volts at the MSD box during cranking, and still get the cam sensor fail code????? I cant wait to get back to working on the car, and hopefully solving this problem quickly.

Maybe hook up a booster/charger while starting the car to see if that solves the problem?

What does that have to do with the engine while running? Mine rund like **** when it does run, so that would mean mine is actually bad perhaps?

I did not realize you were having problems after it was started. I just picked up on 3 pedals post where he was having problems during start up.

I hate to be captain obvious, but do you have the box grounded to the engine or to the body? If just the body, I would run a ground to the motor too just to be sure it is not a ground issue.

Well, i swapped sensors and it ran better, but still acted funny, called MSD and they told me to switch the outer wires on the connector since i was NOT running the extension harness that came on the engine, so not it fires perfect as you can see in the video. So, you running the extension harness? If not, cut swap and splice back together the outer wires that go to the cam sensor.

I am running the GM extension harness that came with my LY6. Maybe I'll try removing the extension, and /or swapping those outside wires in the msd harness.

Still gotta get out the kinks but it so far runs good on the top end, seems to want a larger converter but the 3.23 gears surely dont help.

How did you plug your 6012 into the cam sensor? The two Gen lV's that I have access to have a different plug-in at the sensor (in middle of timing cover) and the plug-in at the end of the extension that runs down to oil pan level. The one in the timing cover is same as LS1 or Gen lll. That is why you have to switch the wires when you use a 6010 box on a 24X Gen lV. I figured the 6012 box had the plug that fit the extension plug-in. The wires in the extension are reversed already which is why you don't normally have to switch the wires on a 6012 setup. Am I confusing everyone?? Ron
