Default 95 Z28 6.0 swap

This car was mine at one time with a 355 carbed and dynoed 311 RWHP and 348 TQ, nowadays, it is getting the GEN III treatment, but here is a pic of it with the LT1 when i bough it:

The work done to swap in a carb and distributor:

This was done in order to retain wiper function.

This was to retain the stock hood before a aftermarket piece was installed:

Then with a hood:

Now, trans was a T56, but it is not going to be a TH350 with a 3000 converter from Jegs, still has 3.23 gears for now, but i am not sure the rear will live forever with the new 6.0

Specs are a stock 6.0 GEN III, when we went to install a cam, what do you know, cam bearings looked like junk, so we tore the engine down, polished the crank, installed ARP bolts in the rods, checked them for out of round, 2 were, so i had a couple extra that replaced them.

New rings and bearings later, we had a goog short block, fresh.

Heads are stock 317s we ported out, cam is a cammotion grind, 238/242 @.050, just over .600 lift on a 112 LSA.

Still waiting on pushrods and will have the flexplate spacer i think tonight, we used the 1 inch Ebay set back conversion plates and the stock LT1 mounts, had to modify the block a touch to clear the bottom of the mount and grind the mount so it would not hit a bolt that mounts the adapter to the block, all on the driver side, passenger side went fine. The LT1 K member as you can assume is re used. The F body alternator even clears the PS lines with not much fuss:

This was the side the needed some grinding:

Direct bolt in:

This will be using some mac mid lengths ad Y pipe. Cannot wait to get this thing rolling again, it has been a fun car when i had it and it is going to be faster than ever.

Note the custom valley cover was pretty cool, had a neighbor/high school buddy make it using the stock valley cover as a template.

The 1 inch set backs are to ensure the GEN III/IV sit in the location a GEN I or II would sit in so trans and exhaust alignment will be as if nothing was moved.

the are 1 inch set back on bothe sides, i used the straight up mounts in my 89 RS and the while engine and trans is 1 inch further up than stock, not that it has been a issue, bt i wish it was back where it should be.

We are hoping, we are going to use a spare converter to make sure the trans is good before we put his good one in, kind of allot of work, but the converter that we will use is a mystery, no part number, is supposed to be a 3500, but it is a 12 inch, but has a really thick mounting ring, so it could be stock for all i know.

Several have made their own, i cannot cut my own plate out that thick, so i dont mind 40$ for perfect pieces.

In the pic above, i had to touch it to my grinder just about .010 to get it to clear the bottom left spot you see where it looks like it is touching the round spot in the casting for a bolt, it did touch before i did the small bit of grinding.

Update with pics, got it running last night, but needs a carb rebuild and had a ticking noise for a few turn overs that is gone, i suspected dry lifters we never soaked in oil:

Had to get the 150$ truck starter, but everything went good, need to finish cooling system and get the gear selector arm for the B&M shifter, otherwise, it is nearly done.

If I may ask, what was the reason for needing the truck starter. I picked up a LY6 6.0 minus starter and have been wondering if ANY LS1 starter will work or if they are specific? BTW, the build is coming along nicely. Nice work. Eric L
