Default Pace Carbed LS2 Crate motor

Here is how you can pay $6400 for what most of us paid $1500 for.

Seriously though. Lots of people would like to know what a stock 6 liter with a carb will make. This one made 445 horsepower and 444 Ft. Lbs with stock heads and cam. It is important to note that this motor has 10.9:1 as opposed to the LQ4 & LQ9 which have 9.4 and 10:08:1 respectively. Just imagine what that motor will make with just a stout cam.

I got my Pace catalog about 2 weeks ago and was looking at both the carb'd 5.3L & 6.0L engines.

Looks like good deals the 5.3L makes 350 hp/370 tq with 9.5:1 CR.

They give you a carb and starter too, so it would probably be more fair to say $2500.

We picked up a brand new 6.0 with l92 on it for $3k. Cam lifters springs Vic jr and controller milodon pan oil pump Holley 750hp We have less than $5500 in it carb to oil pan. All brand new stuff.

With a used engine for 1500 it could be done for $4k easy.

Hell Ive never seen a used LS2 that was decent for $2500 for just the longblock, you guys get better deals than I do for sure. The aluminum block really jacks the price up around me. You can get a nice LQ4 for $1000, but for a good LS2 it is usually around $3000 or more.

That is essentially the motor I put in my car. I got mine directly from GM and they rated it at 440 HP and only 412 lb-ft of torque, so they seem to be getting a little more out of it with the dual plane and 800 CFM carb.

GM stopped making the LS2 so they can't have many of these motors. I bought mine back when the LS2's first came out, and back then you couldn't touch a used LS2 for less than a 4-5 grand. A crate motor made a lot of sense back then. The LS2's were IMO quite a step up from the LS1's. They have the LS6 heads and cam, hotter coils, better pan, floating pistons, better PCV system and several other improvements over the LS1.

That is actually a pretty good package price. The GM crates only had an intake,. That one includes a starter, carb, ignition box and air cleaner. They seemed to have deleted the exhaust manifolds though. Good thing since i couldn't use them anyway. That muscle car oil pan is more universal than the GTO pull outs.

Used motors are definitely cheaper, especially now. But remember they don't come with a 12 month dealer supported warranty. Think of that the next time a guy buys a used motor with an oil pan full of water.

What I have ended up with is essentially and LS2 but with an Iron Block. Once you put 243 heads on an LQ9, you have the 10.9:1 6.0.

LQ9 $1150.
243s $500
Edelbrock Intake $250
Carburetor $450
MSD 6010 $285
Gaskets $100

$2735 and you will essentially have a used version of the PACE motor with an iron block.

...and the option of an aluminum block is over a $1000 adder to that, so for about $4000 you can have the used versoin of the PACE motor, the PACE price is pretty good considering its alot less work.

That is, if you care about or want an aluminum block. But either way, I don't think the PACE deal is a bad deal at all. It is pretty similar to what most of us carb guys are doing though. Throw another $700 at it for cam springs and pushrods and you have a 500+ HP monster for a little over 7 grand.

An aluminum block would be awesome! 100# weight savings right there, but it is so expensive compared to a truck engine. I got my LQ4 for $750, with stock cam and a small turbo it made 520whp, a total of about $3000 for the engine, carb setup, MSD box and turbo setup. The truck engines definitely are a great price. Its a shame the aluminum blocks are so expensive, I thought you guys stumbled on a cheaper way to get them.

I think it is closer to 80 pounds, but that is still a hell of a weight savings.

I picked it up at our local yard. They bought some rolling chassis with engines and trans. They said 50 miles on them but when I took it appart I would say less that 10 min run time. Pistons cleaned up with 1 wipe with a rag and walls were perfect. Leakdown was less than 1%

We have 50 miles on the engine now it is a very nice combo. Dad is very happy with it just have a few tuning issues to work thru

That's a hella deal but u guys gonna have hard time topping my 300$ 09 ly6 longblock
Long story short guy buys motor at salvage yard takes home and has no idea what it is. His manifold does not line up. Does not look like his engine removed. Takes back to jy for his money back and gets exchange for one that does work. I get text. Go out few days later and buy another 2 5.3s for clients. I already know of mystery engine. None of the jy guys recall what vehicle came from.
Has funny looking timing cover.very odd indeed. They say. So I get it for sale as a "core" no warranty. I pay them for motors and haul ***
Motor has less thank 10k miles IMO.
