Default Carbed 6.0 for towing

I got a few questions, I'm new to LS motors, but recently helped a buddy build his 6.0 in his truck, after seeing the inside of these engines, and reading some or the HP and Torque numbers, I got to thinking. now I'm an old dog and these are new tricks so please bare with me, I have a 1990 crew cab dually, it originally came with a tbi 350, but the engine is crap, I have a 1975 model 454 that has a fresh rebuild on it I was going to put in the truck, but a stock 75 454 has decent torque but low HP. Can a carberated 6.0 be built for towing, and what would be the best route to go with it, or am I wasting my time on even messing with it, any an all help will be greatle appreciated!

i'd keep EFI on the motor and just swap it over if it's going to be a tow vehicle, you'll get much better fuel economy with it that way

guess I was thinking carb for ease of installation. if the 454 goes in it will be carbed as the TBI 454's really did suck on power. If I keep the EFI I'll need to use the whole harness and ecm from a donor vehicle, seems like alot of trouble for a truck that might get drove once a week.

I carb my engines since it is cheap and delivers, if you dont have emissions, then go for it if you want to save some cash and headache if you dont know how to do the eFI stuff like me.

The tbi didn't hold back the 454, it was the crap cam and heads on the engine that stopped it from breathing or making any kind of power IMO

I assure you that tbi's are junk. A quadrajet atomizes fuel better than a tbi. I would go carb and put a vacuum secondary on it. The fuel injection would be nice but you would still have to get a harness made and get a pcm.

I would use a 750 VS Holley.

My plan would be a vacuum secondary holley, what about cams? stock or is there something better for low end grunt, the truck is geared at 4:10, but the tires (235/85/16) are pretty tall, I want to use the turbo 400 thats in the truck already, so I figure 5000 rpm would probably be the very top rpm this engine would see. so what would be the best way to go 454 or 6.0.

6.0 and keep stock cam.was designed for hd line of trucks. And engine will run perfectly fine on 87. Carb or efi. Stock lq4 compression is 9.4:1

I would go 6.0 and for a cam a LS6 grind would do well, but the stocker is fine.
