Default Low profile air cleaner setup?

502cid LS so need around 1000-1200cfm. As you can see, TIGHT room (that's a plastic mockup carb, spacers are to represent the gmpp lsx tall deck intake manifold ... I only had access to an ls1 intake manifold for my fitment)

Here is is with a 3 1/2'' spectre plenum hat

So far the most appropriate thing I can think of is a spectre low profile sheetmetal plenum filter, a-la

but obviously this type of filtering is not the most efficient/best setup.

However, w/ my constraints I'm thinking it may be my only option?

I really don't see any other way around it. It doesn't get much more low profile than what you've shown, and that is already hindering airflow.

There are a couple of options though. Shorter intake manifold i.e. Vic Jr. or shaving some off of your intake manifold. Also, I know this will get shot down because I'm sure you want the car to be carbureted, but going the fuel injection route would also eliminate the problem. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Seems a custom piece of work is needed and that still is going to hinder any ability to cover the induction.

Can't lower the intake - it's a gmpp lsx tall deck intake, about as low as you're getting. Shaving the intake isn't going to be worth it for marginal height clearances.

About the only thing I can think of doing is using that low profile carb plenum, then run flexible ducting

to both of my sidescoops so the air filters are blasted by continual cold air. Maybe the cold-air effect will help offset some of the suckyness of the filtration setup, heh?

I also can't move the engine rearwards or downwards anymore than it already is.

I had a stroke of genius =)

Move the air cleaner back. The rear window is gone - replaced w/ a carbon fiber race scoop, so I can get a 14x3 in now.

(mocked up on another car)

I say use that specter piece you have and mold in some sore of forward facing scoop that will mount on the car as well so that it is really getting some air while driving.

Yea, basically what I'm going to do is

- use low profile spectre plenum

- position 2 6'' filters at the rear of the engine/above the transaxle

- build a box with heatfoil that surrounds the filters to reflect radiant heat

- build a carbon fiber air scoop that replace sthe rear window, like this, but more visually appealing and smaller:

Obviously adding ducting from there to the air filters would be best, but for simplicity I'd just leave the filters unducted and let air blast it at speed
