Default Stock LS6 dyno numbers....

Just thought I'd throw this up...

Stock 2004+ LS6. Pro-systems 780. Victor Jr. Motor is in a 4th gen f-body set up for road racing...

Got it tuned today and made a healthy 380hp to the wheels. AFR was 12.9 straight across the board. Very happy overall.

Thanks for keeping the forum on topic and the wealth of knowledge coming...

380 wheel is damn impressive for a carb swap man. Congrats.

That is impressive, what did the power look like? When did it drop off?

I wish I could do a cam... Seeing dyno numbers and knowing the potential of these motors, I just want to see more. However I'm limited in my class by a power to weight ratio. At this point I'd either have to gain 150lbs or loose some power. With road racing I'd rather be as light as possible, so I'll have to restrict this combo down as is.

The curve was just perfect. He started the pull at 2k and the torque shot to 320 and stayed there till the end. Horse power was a nice pretty rainbow to 380 then started to fall off at 6800. Limiter is set at 6800 and I'll set the shift light at 6500.

He did a back to back pull with and without the air cleaner and the difference is unreal. I always kinda thought the hoopla from all these air filter companies was just that, hoopla. After seeing this I'm a believer in not only the most unrestrictive setup but also the ability to control the airflow well. My tuner has dyno graphs with tons of setups on his mustang and it's crazy to see what works and what doesn't. Hint.... The filtered assembly tops also don't work very well. They allow too much turbulent air into the carb and brings power down.

Great results for a stock LS6.

Can you share some details like which air cleaner was tested on your combo and what the numbers were? I tested my K&N 3 inch element on a drop base at the drag strip. It killed around one MPH and about 3 hundredths or so.

So that thing will pull to 6800 with a ls6 cam?

The air filter was an Edlebrock pro-flo foam filter. The small triangular filter you can find at any auto parts store. Space restrictions where the biggest reason I went with the filter. I'll be taking the foam out and using a fine mesh screen. Just like the big Can-Am and formula cars of the 60's and 70's.

He's done a couple other tests as well. The spectra plenums where down on power also. Losing around 15hp as compared to a 14inch setup. That test was on a 3 valve mod motor with a carb.

Zone, Yeah this was with an LS6 cam and it started falling off after 6800. So that's where we set the limiter. It made the most power at 6300 ish.

That sounds about right with that style of air cleaner but it's still interesting to hear actual dyno numbers from testing. I figure my drop-base 14 inch was down 10hp or so based on the mph loss and I figure part of it is the lid being so close to the air horn of the carb. So 15 sounds about right for the ones that you described since they're smaller and have the same "choke" effect going on.

Well, my dinky little mr gasket 10 inch yields no difference at the track on or off or a difference in the AFR, so you guys must have some crazy stuff going on. Im sure a dyno may show a difference for my, but the track doesnt.

How tall is the element and how high is the lid from the carb's airhorn? Mine is a 3 inch tall element but it's a 1 3/4 drop base so the lid of the air cleaner is only 1 1/4 off of the carbs airhorn. I suspect this affects airflow more than a smaller diameter element would and is likely what caused my 1 MPH loss at the track. This was a back to back test (same day/same track).

Likewise, I suspect the little Edlebrock triangle filters and the plenum style hats the OP described have the same type of effect because they sit so close to the airhorn. Just my thoughts.......

Ok so on the idea of air cleaners.... I just got back form the track this weekend. I decided that I didn't want to deal with the foam inside the air cleaner thingy I had. So I took the foam out and used one of those head socks black guys wear. Looks like panty hose haha. Worked great. Just stretched it out over the wire mesh from the original assembly.

I thought it would make more than my ls6. Usually a carb will have a little more top end power. What dyno was you on? My numbers are in the sig, yes that is a stock ls6 and yes those are dynojet numbers. If you are on a dynojet your numbers are way low. I turn mine 7000 too.

With the ported fast 90 and an electric water pump those increases are about right. I'm not sure what the dyno was but it's an AWD dyno. Not sure how many manufacturers there are. With some porting and a better air cleaner set up I should get right up there.

Ok. It makes sense if it was that style of dyno. They usually read a bit lower.

We need to get up so I can pick your brain. I was going to get one of those open-top K&N things for my father's setup. Also I posted up about swapping the cam etc. etc.
