Default Hood Clearance on a 69 Camaro

Anyone have experience with hood clearance using a dual plane or single plane intake with carb and a stock GM cowl hood? I have to keep my GM cowl hood and am not sure if I can use a single plane, like the Vic Jr.

Thanks,

I thought the single plane intakes are not as tall as the dual planes. I know the GM single plane provides more hood clearance than any of the eddy units.

Not sure if you are looking for shorter or taller, but taller you can easily get with carb spacers

I had a SBC with a Vic Jr.,Demon 750,and a 3" filter under a stock flat hood (in my 68) With these LS motors being very close in size...I'd say yes with a drop base air filter.

I run a vicJr L92(taller than cathedral) 1" spacer under a 4" cowl hood. I have about 2" above the carb, but I do not think it would fit under the oem 1 3/4" cowl. Maybe the cathedral Vic jr. and no spacer along with a drop base air cleaner.

l92 vic jr with carb and a 1" flat base air filter just touch my stock size cowl fiberglass hood. a drop base would b better and allow for a taller filter

I'm running brp mount and the vic jr with a spun aluminum air cleaner rubbed just barely. Switched to perf rpm and it does not rub at all.

pics are in this sept 2012 camaro performers magazine w/perf rpm. pic w/vic jr is below

Thanks for the responses guys. I failed to provide enough information in my original post but mostly you guys were right on.

I am trying to make sure my combo will fit under the hood before laying our big $$$ for an intake manifold.

My current plans are for using Holley mounts (original location), likely an LSX376 (I know, I know, many will tell me there are better or cheaper alternatives). LS3 heads. This is a street car so I don't have to squeeze out every last hp. I am considering GMPP dual or single plane, Edelbrock Performer RPM, or Vic Jr. Sound like the Vic Jr may fit but it would be tight.

Now I have to go buy a Sept 2012 to see hifi's car!!! That is, if I can still find a copy.
