Default Corvette ls1 cam

Im putting a 2001 corvette ls1 in my 66 nova and just going through some cam options. Im looking to be around 400 horse at the wheels on a 750 double pumper. Jr victor intake and msd box. All stock long block. Any suggestions an anything to get there would be great. Even things other than a cam. Thanks.

Mine is a comp XER281HR-12, and I love it. That should get you there, and some more!

What is the rest of the existing setup? The edelbrock 2216 can use ls6 springs and made a reported 480 fwhp according to edelbrock.

You will need the MSD 6010, the 6013 is for 2005 up engines.

The edelbrock 2215 and 2216 as well as the hot cam can use stock springs. The 2216 needs LS6 springs

With your Nova being pretty light, I would say a duration @ .050" between 225-231 degrees intake duration with a 110LSA on a 107-108 ICL. I would say an exhaust duration spread of about 4 degrees unless you are going nitrous. If so, you might widen the exhaust duration spread to 8 degrees. I think a lot of guys are really happy with the LSL lobes from Comp Cams. That cam ought to have a nice thump at idle and really deliver the mail.

For springs, the PAC brand #1518s are very nice units. Stock retainers and locks are fine, but you will likely want to upgrade your stock rocker's bearings with the Comp Cams trunion bearing upgrade kit and buy some good hardened pushrods.

not to throw another factor in there but a nitrous cam is similar to a turbo cam correct? i wont run nitro but there is a possibility i might throw 7-8 psi at in on a small turbo set up. will the 2216 still be ok with that? its very close to what you said. but it has 5 degree exhaust duration. everything else is the same or close to it.

No. Turbo cams tend to be single pattern or even a small reverse split duration. Also, on milder applications, the turbo cams will tend to be shorter in duration for a given rpm range. Turbos will also be fussier about narrow LSAs than nitrous.

For a light boost turbo setup, you can just run the cam you have and still get very impressive performance. But, if you want a cam that will bring a nice performance improvement N/A, but still work great with turbo, a lot of guys are having great success with the 220/220 on 112-114 LSA cams. I ran one of those when I first built my car and it powered my 3700#+ car well into the 11s. That cam will be happy with an ICL between 108-110 using a Victor Jr. intake from my experience with it.

Should probably spend the money on the spring upgrade. Would cost alot more of you had unstable valvetrain. I'm running a mother thumper cam in my 5.3.couldn't believe the mid range torque that cam made over stock.

Upgrade the pushrods as well, pretty much a must. And for turbo setup, many people use the LS6 cam.

i got an edelbrock 2216 and ls6 springs and pushrods. edelbrock says stock ls1 sptings will work but may bind. so i got ls6 springs just to be safe.
