Default 86 5.3 C10 Swap

My caprice almost ready and i just acquired a 86 2wd C10. I got the bug and Im ready for my next swap. I got a 5.3 from a 2000 tahoe for $350 and have collected all my parts i need for the swap. I am going to use the gm muscle car oil pan, MSD-6010 and i made my own mount plates. The truck has a 350/350th combo. The plates are made to put the motor in the stock position, but i made them to position it 1/2"back and 3/8" up. I've already cleaned up the motor and started getting the motor ready. I hope to have this truck done asap.

Im hoping to keep it rolling. The truck runs good now but there's always room for improvement, lol. Its taken 1yr off and on to get my caprice where its at Im still waiting to take it down the road. I took care of a couple broken exhaust manifold bolts this morning and put my f-body manifolds on. I think the world would be a better place without broken bolts. Here's a pic of the sum bitches and my mount plates i made. These 2 gave a good fight and the 3rd had to b drilled and re-tapped.

You made those plates? You have some great tools then.

As far as bolts, I weld a nut to them and they always come out for me.

Its not delivery, its digiorno's lol. I bought a set of transdapt plates when i started my caprice swap and i made a template of it. U can make them with a drill press and a cutoff wheel. I won't knock anything if it works. Here's a pic of my template.

I don't have enough patience to use a cutoff wheel on metal that thick. Lol

Oh, forgot to mention, the schoenfeld headers that are for a 88-98 silverado/Sierra will also fit that older body style great. Just a FYI. I have some on my 94 gmc and they work perfect. 1 3/4 3" collector for 269 shipped.

Thanks fella's. I've been making a bunch of room around my garage for the swap. I would've worked on it at my dads garage but it lacks heat. I figured it would be fittings that the truck get to haul its new engine and the equipment to do it with. As of now its getting ready to go under the knife, lol. If any one knows someone who knows someone needing a few connectors for there harness i have one for the price of a flat-rate box. Thanks for the offer on the headers. I already had the exhaust manifolds and Im trying to do this as cheaply as possible.

For sure, I am just a manifold hater and avoid them at all cost. That's me though, nothing wrong with them if you are worried about power.

I've had a killer past couple nights in the garage. So far my tranny cooler, electric fan and fuse block are mounted and started wiring. Working on this truck has a lot more options when it comes to hiding things. I don't know if it is experience but things seem to be flowing smoother, hopefully none of it comes back to kick me in the c&b's.

Thanks! Your in the right spot, there's a lot of info here. These trucks are plentiful and there's probably 3 or 4 under construction right now.

yeah i have a crap ton of 80's chevy pickup parts haha. PM me if you need anything I can take a look. I'd probably keep mine fuel injected tho for gas mileage and driveability. if I were to keep it carb'd id just stay SBC got plenty of parts for that. I'll have to search for a build that wired in a fuel injected one, but this is helpful nonetheless.

I totally agree the driveability of fuel injections is better. I have a modified harness all i lack are a few sensors, air intake and fuel delivery. I would also need a modified 5.3 pcm but i want to drive this thing asap. Ill keep u in mind cause i will need some parts.

Honestly I've driven some carbed cars that had edelbrock carbs that unless you popped the hood, you would never know it wasn't EFI! My 4.8 with the 750 is not dialed in 100%, but the only way you can assume it is not EFI is when you start it in the cold weather. I have no choke so it will stumble when you first hit the throttle. Fuel economy is a joke, EFI will get 1, maybe 2 more mpg in a good day over a properly tuned carb.

Anyway, that little fan going to keep that thing cool?

Im hoping it does. I think its rated somewhere around 1700 to 1800 cfm. I see both sides. I've got good gas mileage from a carb before. A Carb'd LS stock has an advantage over a stock sbc and fuel injection has better cold starts. I think down the road efi would be an upgrade but for now Im happy with a carb and where I've come in on my budget. I sit about $1300 minus an exhaust.
