I figure it's probably time for an update on my garage upgrades. I got my bench built several weeks ago. Its 18ft long and around 42 inches high, which I find to be a comfortable work height for me.
Last week I put four coats of Varathane on it. I didn't do it so much for looks but to hopefully keep it from absorbing grease and grime. I like a work surface I can wipe down. Only time will tell how it will hold up to gasoline, brake parts cleaner and other harsh solvents.
A few weeks ago I got the call to come pick up my lift at the terminal. I chose to pick it up at the terminal because they were able to just forklift it onto my trailer. I strapped it down and off I went.
Next came the trick of how to get it all off back at the house.....especially with my bad back. I slowly started unwrapping and removing small pieces that I could hand or cart carry until I was left with just the posts. From there I used a series of floor jacks, wood blocks, wheel dollies and my cherry picker to get the posts off the trailer and into the garage.
The following Friday I had a couple buddies from work come over and help me stand up the posts and get them secured to the floor. From there I was able to do the rest of the assembly on my own.
I haven't been able to try it out yet because the wiring isn't done yet. I had an electrician come out and give me a quote. He'll be back on the 14th to complete the job. He's going to install a subpanel in my garage and pull three 240V circuits; one for the lift, one for my planned AC/heat unit, and one for a new compressor. Things are slowly coming together. Hopefully I can soon get back to working on the cars instead of the garage.

i'm pretty jealous of that, lol! i have an opportunity to pick up a pair of used lifts for less than half the cost of a new one, but no money, nor space to put them. i'd love to get them just to put them away till i have a facility for them, but again, no money nor space, lol! that's just the way life is sometimes. i'm penny pinching my winter projects big time to get everything done.

Mine is a 22'x33' attached garage with 10.5' ceilings. It's not what I would have built but it's just large enough to work. The ceiling height will allow me to lift both cars to full height but my truck will have to stop at 5ft or so.

Yeah I've been thinking about that. Once my sub-panel is installed I'll have room for more circuits. Right now my little 120v MIG does everything I need it to but it would be nice to be able to move to a bigger welder in the future. What I'd really like to have though is a plasma cutter. Luckily I should be able to run either of those circuits later since their plugs would likely be on the same wall as the panel. And the bottom of that wall is accessible from my basement.
