I have been screaming this for years. Ever since the monte carlo SS V6 package sold so well GM went nuts putting SS on just about anything with extra body moldings and a look more agressive than the base model. Before you know it i'll have kids asking if my SS is a V8. In the cobalts defense (although i still don't think it should carry the SS moniker) it has been holding it down in the NOPI front wheel drive class ever since it's appearence. I've seen it dominate several front wheel drive road course time attacks and will applaud any domestic doin some bruisin in that class!

"Any chevy can be a SS, Only a Camaro can be a Z28"
Technically all SS are z28s.

Ok, so think of this, 390-400 horsepower 0-60 under 6 seconds for the TB SS, and the Cobalt SS S/C has 205 horsepower, and it has a 0-60 of under 6 seconds also.

Quote "The Cobalt SS Supercharged can run the 1/4 in the low 14-second range and a 0-to-60 time of just under six seconds. Sound familiar? These happen to be numbers likened to such rides as the aforementioned Camaro, the SRT-4 by Dodge (which is now out of production...so sad), and the non-STi WRX." -Taken from Yahoo Autos-

I personally think most people are under estimating some of the new SS's that GM is coming out with. If you don't like them, thats fine, more power to you.

Special Vehicales Team just makes a better car from the base model, so it is "Special". dont know what the hell SRT stands for, but as far as Super Sport goes, if i look at a car and it does not look SUPERSPORT to me than it should not have the badge!

This dude said it all!

Yeah, why would Chevy want to slap the "SS" badge on such ugly vehicles...

They never used to do that...

BTW: If you want to check out some cool old shots of GM vehicles, check out THIS link. I found it while I was looking for an old Chevelle picture.

This is my opinion, you can take, leave, or smoke it... doesn't really matter to me, but I'll not "shut the hell up" just because you don't agree with it.
If you look back to the original SS's they were not great handling cars. They were big and heavy but with big blocks that put out huge numbers.

as far as im concerned, it dosent matter to me what they put the "SS" badge on, as long as it dominates everthing else in its class. the cobalt is a nice looking car (helluva lot better looking than the cavalier) but i think if its going to have SS badges, then the general needs to make sure it can handle any kind of neon or focus. i havent done alot of research on the cobalt SS but i think it is alittle slower than the SRT neon, correct me if im wrong. It dosent need to have a v-8 to be an SS, i think there were some novas back in the early 60's that had 6 cylinders and they were SS's.

i think the only car chevy has now worthy of the SS tag is the V8 optioned impala. the impala was a badass car back in the day and as long as it's got the big V8 power, it's worthy of the badge because of its roots.

they got nuthin else in their lineup worthy right now.

that cobalt above isn't bad, but i think it should be a cobalt GT, not a cobalt SS. i'm sorry, SS should be for american muscle. a cobalt is not american muscle.

i think every car carrying the SS badge deserves it now except for the non-supercharged Cobalt SS..

Its FWD.

V8 does not equal SS.
