Police package info.
How do I go about finding out if I have the LT1 police package on my car? I doubt that I do, but a State Trooper had this car before me, and rebuilt it, and you never really know what people before you did to a car.
What exactly does the police package do? Is this something that people can get, for instance, if they are friends with a police?

Open your drivers door and look for the RPO sticker. If it has the code B4C, it is a police car. The police package wasn't sold to the public. It include a better flowing intake/exhaust, stiffer suspension, and other parts for police duty.

Yea, it will have RPO B4C. The police often sell these cars when they are done service. Theres a bunch of B4C's running around. Alot of them are Light because they lack alot of the heavy options.

B4C is a camaro only. if you have a pontiac then no you do not have the B4C. B4Cs dont weigh any less than any other fourth gen. power windows and power seats add nothing to the weight of these cars. the B4C cars came with some 1LE parts on them and thats about it really. i dont consider them any more special than a 1LE, SS, WS6, or Firehawk. the only thing they offer over those cars is that its not easy to get a B4C. its getting easier now that they are taking them out of commision and selling them. when they were new the dealership could only order them if they had all the legal papers and hoops jumped through by the local jurisdiction. the reasoning was they did not wont dealerships ordering these cars as they are police packaged cars and just selling them to the public. I am sure it was that way with the 9C1 caprice cop cars and the police spec impalas they have now. ford im sure did the same as well with the police interceptor Crown Vics.

My B4C has a 3.23 rear end, as opposed to the more common 2.73 found in the Z28. I only have minimal mods and usually have little trouble running against stock LS1's or Mustangs. The car seems very light and has few options--just less stuff to rip out!!

My Trans-Am was owned by a State Police, so I didn't know if it was something that could be added to the car. I didn't know they came from the factory like that. The only thing I really find with my car, that is similiar to those mods, is that my suspension is really really tight. Its a huge difference from other F-bods I've rode in. Perhaps the car just wasn't ragged out or run hard, and still feels "new". Hard to believe with 117,000 miles on it.

Here are some of the '97 Camaro B4C specs...
Codes MN6/GU6: LT1 350/6Spd T56 Manual, 3.42 Posi Rear End
Codes MX0/GU5: LT1 350/4Spd 4L60E Auto, 3.23 Posi Rear End
FE9 Federal Emissions Package
140A Alternator (50A at idle)
A/C
245/50ZR-16 Tires
FE2 Suspension (slightly different than Z28--not sure if better)
I've heard a lot of B.S. on the web regarding "secret" B4C mods, but have yet to see anything but standard Z28 stuff. These include special tuning, ported exhaust, high flow cats, special brakes, special tranny gears. Don't believe any of it.
And just because GM didn't make a B4C Firebird doesn't mean you don't have a police car. The feds, in particular, had some of them for undercover ops. I'd bet there are other agencies that did similar stuff.
