62 Bel Air sedan 5.3 Turbo build
Fixing to start on this swap for a buddy. Car is an all original 6cyl, 3 on the tree sedan. Still had plastic on the back seat, front seat still perfect. Car has 80k original on it, and was garage kept, driven to church on sundays only by a now elderly couple, NO KIDDING!
So far it has 4whl power Disc brakes, drop spindles, air ride on all four corners, and Boss 20in wheeels.
Base for the project is a 2002 LM7 5.3. Still waiting on a few parts and ordered more. Going with a ls1 pan setup, cheap Ls1 intake, 218/224 .550/.550 114 or 116 LSA, ls6 yellows, hardened PR. new pump and timing set. Shooting for a decent runner cruise car. T70 turbo, manifold setup, intercooled, like 5 or 6PSI, 4l60 stock stall.
Sending harness off tomorrow to be modified, ordering more parts. going with 255 pump, 42lb injectors. Going to build mounts, they are easy on this car.

my buddy decided to ditch the turbo until we get the car up and going, but I have s ? on fuel pump. I know theres a chance of vaporlock using an inline pump, but i'm going to have to go the route, the car has a brand new tank and sending unit, so he does not want to take the new junk out. Is there a solution on the vaporlock situation? And I need to know what pump to run, Im going with a 255 walbro, but need to know which one will support the 55-62psi it needs

Motor and trans are in, it went in too easy. Only thing we had to do was dimple the x member to get the pan to clear. Almost everything is ready, it even has a belt on it with a custom mount for the alt. We are only waiting on the harness and the car will be fired up

Havent updated because a snag was hit. The car runs and drives great, but after a little flogging(like, the first day) we grenaded the carrier bearing. I pulled it out, braced it, and it ended up going south again.
So now i'm just waiting on Keith to drop the jack on a billet carrier. i don't see how the 409 4 spd cars ever held the stock carrier at all.

I agree carriers in those cars are a disaster. Why not go with a single driveshaft? That is what most of the superstock guys used to do, granted that requires modifying the frame.

I used to have carrier bearing problems until I realized I was putting the drive shaft together incorrectly. There is supposed to be a tang that only allows you to assemble it properly but for some reason mine was gone. It took buying a used one to figure out what was wrong. Once I discovered the error of my ways I never had drive shaft issues again. This was with a 350HP SBC and a muncie 4 speed... I was HARD on second gear... and tires. When I rebuild that car next time I am going with a billet carrier and a LOT more power.

I have a 62 Biscayne that I'm thinking of doing a similar swap. My center driveshaft bearing is junk, replace it with a stocker that lasted a couple weeks. So I bought a billet one from e-bay;
