Default How much of the wiring is necessary?

Hi guys, doing a swap into a '67 chevelle. I scored the mother load off a wrecked '06 GTO, got motor, trans, ECU, etc...and basically all the wiring. Not only the engine harness, but also the complete under dash and engine bay harness, both fuse boxes, etc.. How much of it is really needed? I'm sure there are fundamental things needed to power the ECU and enable the security things, just not sure what else I might need.. Surely there's a neutral safety and/or clutch safety switch, how about other security type things are needed to make it go? Also since it's DBW, I'm thinking I can make the cruise work, but I didn't take the steering column. So which wires need powered up here and there for that to work?

Here's the under dash and engine bay harness, 22lbs of crap.

Any insight would be sincerely appreciated,

Honestly after all said and done you will prob end up with about half of what's there. When I swapped my Car I stripped all kinds of junk out of the 1999 Harness that I used.

Add a fuse block of your choice. Either stock or aftermarket. 4 fuses and one relay are required to run, add more for fan control

awesome, thanks!

happen to have the pin-out for the connector that comes off the engine harness and goes through the firewall on the driver side by the brake booster? Guy I bought this from couldn't get the grommet out, so he cut the harness and spliced some crap. 2 leads are now too short to reach the connector, so I need to lengthen them and figure out where they go..

Wow... why does that look so much less complicated than the diagram I have for me '05 6.0L truck?! Where can I get one of those?!

yep, got all 3 plus all the clutch hydraulics.



Along with the wiring diagram provided above, I'll need to fish the OBD2 port out of the under dash harness so that I can tune/interface with things. At what point should a guy try to sell off the stock ECU, BCM, harness(es), and whatnot and just buy the GM LS Controller kit (which includes ECU, MAF, O2s, BCM, and pedal)? Seems to only have the essentials in the harness. Probably sell of all my take-out stuff and be within a couple hundred bucks of the 19166568 controller kit. Thoughts?

Dont bother digging the ALDL connector out of a donor car. Just snip it with about 6" of wire and run new wires to the engine harness

I've already got it out, but your saying it's a direct connection to the engine harness somewhere? I see in that diagram above that it goes to the drk grn wire B58. surely can't be that simple

Yup..it's that simple..lol

Pin #2 to that B58, #4 & #5 are Grounds, Pin #16 is 12v Constant Power from the Battery.

The OBD II connection is SUPER simple like Merv said. One is the data line, one is 12V and two are grounds. The rest of the connections either aren't used or won't matter in a swap application.

Basically look at this link about the OBD2 port. (scroll to the bottom). I prefer diagrams so...




What you need is in bold, unnecessary bagpipes and bullsh!t is gray.

Pin 2 - J1850 Bus+
Pin 4 - Chassis Ground
Pin 5 - Signal Ground

Pin 6 - CAN High (J-2284)
Pin 7 - ISO 9141-2 K Line
Pin 10 - J1850 Bus
Pin 14 - CAN Low (J-2284)
Pin 15 - ISO 9141-2 L Line

Pin 16 - Battery Power

Does it matter at all that NOS327 clearly states that everything he has is from an 06 GTO (Gen-4, LS2, E40 ECM), yet every reply is a bunch of old LS1 info that doesn't apply here???

hey yeah, where is the DBW connector in that diagram?

guess I need to start doing some more digging about the appropriate pin-outs for the gen 4 stuff.

As suggested before, at what point should I abandon the pile of stock parts I have and look into a more swap intended "kit"?

Thanks for clearing that up Speartech. Were can a guy find GenIV schematics and or applicable information? There is a lot of GenIII info floating around and not much on GenIV. Any help is appreciated.

90% of the 05-06 GTO harness "stand alone" part comes thru the J1 connector to the ECM.

We offer a finished J1 replacement harness that allows you to plug in and get up and running quickly and easily:



If you're sifting thru a factory harness to simplify it, this is basically what you want to end up with.

You can buy the factory service manual or search around on the Internet.

Yeah but he had also mentioned that he was wanting to use the DBW feature for cruise as well..

Wouldnt he also need the BCM and the wiring to the ECM for that function?
