Thanks Tango for the kind words! And I agree on the MPG thing. It's just awesome to tell people when they say **** like " gas is $3.50 a gallon so you built a 408, thats real smart!" and then I can turn around and say it gets better fuel mileage than that over sized SUV that serves no purpose you drive! Or that big *** truck that uses $4.00 diesel so that you can haul them two 40lb bags of mulch at 18 mpg!!! I guess I just want the best of both worlds, fast car with decent mileage. As long as its fast the fuel mileage is an added bonus.

gMAG its great news to hear you have that car back on the road! I think your right about the residual material. Those young guys don't have a clue about long term goals and the preservation of a classic car. I am sure if they tried to pass ya it would have been an entirely different story. I am still waiting on someone to pull up beside me for some stoplight to stoplight action.

73 pages and not a video of it running? If this takes much longer, I'm driving the booger to NC to get some footage, and maybe a race.

Hopefully I will have the dyno run on video by next week. Looking at driving it down to Mooresville on Friday. Sooner if the weather will hold off. I have footage of it running on here just not the 408.

What are you up to in Mooresville? I'd love to see that car in person. Mine is getting there slowly but surely.

Driving the car to the tuners in Mooresville. PCMforLess near the Mooresville dragway. Keep plugging away and you will be done before you know it.

Well I was on my way home today from work and looked up at the blue sky and said "today would be a good day to drive Ol' Blue to the tuners". About 15 minutes into the drive the blue skies were no more! It rained off and on all the way down to Mooresville. I filled the car up in Germanton which is approximately 65-70 miles from Mooresville. About 10 miles from PCMforLess I filled it back up and I had to force 3 gallons into her. Not too shabby for fuel mileage! Rolling down the highway in 6th I averaged 1,400-1,600rpms the whole way down. I just wish I didn't have these short *** arms so I could reach the window handles on the passenger side. I was practically sitting in the middle of the car rolling the windows up. Thank the Lord for my Vintage Air!!! Alvin is taking my car to a guy to have a custom air intake built for it tomorrow. I want to rid my self of the MAF since I am using a speed density tune anyways. Pics and a video will be on there way as soon as I get them! Please dont let me down 408, please!!!!

At least you don't have big ape arms like me. I can't fit into a long sleeve shirt. This reminds me of a math word problem from grade school. So you got about 20mpg?

Something like that.

Futureuser- Do you have some valvetrain noise with your setup? I noticed the lifter noise is about the same from the last setup in mine. I have new LS7 lifters, Comp Cam, and about .080"-.085" preload on the lifters and still have some noise up top. The 6.0 had used LQ4 lifters, reground cam, and .065" preload and it was about the same. I know Speedtigger has the same issue and he has tried several different combinations to remedy it. The noise hasn't caused me any problems but is a little annoying. Sounds like I have a solid cam instead of the hydraulic.

What method did you use to measure pre-load? Did you use an adjustable pushrod?

That makes two of us! I went down to Mooresville on Friday and stopped in to check on the progress. Turns out the air intake is still not complete. The shop building it is Farrell Creations across the street from PCMforless. It has been a nightmare on parts delivery. Hoping this week will be the one! Tom(owner) at Farrell Creations has pulled off some outstanding work on a variety of makes and models! Got a chance to tour his shop and Wow! He is wittling me out a hood grille for my cowl induction on his Haas mill. As soon as pics and a video are available I will definately post them. Sorry for the delay, it is out of my hands.

[IMG][/IMG]

I mounted a dial indicator to side of the head and positioned the plunger of the indicator so that it was in a straight line with the pushrod. With the lifter on the base circle of the cam, push rod in, rocker arm on, I tightened the rocker arm down until I was at zero lash(push rod was contacting the rocker and lifter, rocker was against the valve). At this point I preloaded the indicator, set it to zero and contiued to tighten the rocker until the proper torque was achieved. I had .077" of rocker arm travel using the oil hole of the rocker as a guide for the plunger. I then zeroed the indicator and started to loosen the rocker arm until the push rod was loose again. Both methods yielded the same results. This is with brand new LS7 lifters, new Comp Cam, new Smith Brother push rods, Patriot Extremes!!! On the 6.0 I only had .065" of preload with just about the same amount of noise. Speedtigger has had similar results without any success of fully eliminating the noise. The engine runs great and is only noticeable at idle. My oil pressure is great at idle. As long as the push rods stay put and no mechanical issues arise I guess I am going to have to live it. Some say the larger cams in these LS engines are just noisy but I am not too sure about that. I have not heard that many LS engines that have been modified to know. I had give thought to buying a set of adjustable rockers but for the L92's I am sure they are expensive.
