Transmissions (TH350, TH400, 700R4/4l60/e, and PG) actually stay pretty reasonable in price until you need to support HUGE power levels. My 4l60 ran me about $600 in parts and was good for 600tq, my TH400 is running me $350 in parts and good for a TON more. The converter is where you'll spend your cash.

yeah i wanted the th400 really bad but i didnt want to gear it really high to go down the highway. so i opted for the 4l60. i found a 5.3 bellhousing cheap but idk if it will work or not? i ordered a stock replacement balancer and longer wheel studs for the rear wheels and spacers. now i need the adjustable panhard so i can have a roller instead of a shell.

yeah i knew it would fit the engine and transmission just didnt know about the transmission tunnel of the car... thanks for your help. its been raining all day so no chance of getting the engine bay done today. so maybe i can take a peak at the internals of the 4l60 and work on my shortblock some more.

LS3/L92 gaskets will work fine, but I plan on using L76 gaskets for the tiny bit of compression difference. The L76 was a 6.0L with L92 heads (Pontiac G8 for one) and the gaskets have a smaller bore than the LS3/L92 ones.
