Just a little note I want to add. While looking over my car I noticed some glue on the paint left over from the upholstery shop putting the carpet etc in my trunk. I looked up some ways to remove it and one was using WD-40. I did that and it worked like a champ.

For those following this thread and are wondering about the E38 speedometer output I have some new information. Thanks to Hart Rod who was pursuing this with HPTuners.
The latest HPTuners file 2.24.479 now has a switch under the speedometer heading to turn on port X1-57 or J1-57. This will put out a pulse that a speedometer can read and be calibrated to. It is the last setting on the small window and you may have to scroll down to see it.
Here is a link to that thread that also has a picture. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...er-output.html

Been driving the car around and I am not completely happy with the brakes. They stop OK but I want to do better. Looking into the Wilwood Dynapro 6 piston brake kit 140-10510. This should save some weight with some of it being rotating weight and increase my stopping capabilities.
I hear there is another 65 Skylark running a 11.05 in the quarter mile down in Florida. Got to keep that guy in sight.

Not yet. That was one of the reasons I was out driving it yesterday. I was calibrating the Speedhut speedometer with the latest HP Tuners program. No dice. I might just go ahead and install the GMLAN speedometer and be done with it. Just working off my punch list and I am basically down to four things.
This car does haul a$$. My 89 Trans Am will do 11.5 @ 116 in the quarter and this one seems every bit as fast. It really puts you back in the seat. The butt dyno can be tricky though.
1. Get Speedometer working
2. Do a final tune including the 6L80 transmission.
3. Brake upgrade. Sent an email to Wilwood looking into my options.
4. Get the A/C working. That can wait until Summer.

OK, after a ton or research I think I have finally figured out what to do for a brake upgrade. The fronts are 69-72 calipers with a 2 15/16" single piston. The rears are a 2.12" single piston. The weight savings by going to the aluminum calipers is anywhere from 3.5 to 5lbs per side depending on the caliper chosen. Not enough to justify the cost in my mind.
So, what I will do is merely upgrade the brake pads. I plan on going to the EBC red pads front and rear. They have a coefficient of friction fo .45. I will also change out the proportioning valve as the one in the car very well maybe a disc/drum unit. To be sure I will install a disc/disc unit.

I was doing some more testing today in trying to get the speedo to work using the E38 J57 output. Still not working. However while driving around I was comparing the Outside Air Temperature located in the front of the car to the temperature at the MAF on my Cold Air Intake.
I was moving at 10mph and the OAT was 69 degrees and at the MAF it was 72 degrees. That is only a 3 degree difference. While the car is sitting still they will both go up some with the MAF maybe 10-12 degrees higher. But once the car is moving again they both immediately drop back down.
Needless to say I am very happy with the results. The more I drive this car the more I like it. After I complete my punch list it should be golden. I forgot a few things for my punch list. Hahahahaha.
5. Change to 6L80 oil pan to the G8 version. This will increase the ground clearance about 3/4".
6. Change out the front sway bar to a 1 5/16" hollow one which I just ordered.
As to the brakes no response from Wilwood. So I will just change out the pads to EBC Red Stuff and change out the proportioning valve to a disc/disc. Might have a disc/drum in it now.

I think I know that the problem is. Somehow RoadRunner is blocking your email. I just now specifically put your email address on my allowed list. I have had to do this before but it has been awhile. So when you get time please try one more time. It should work this time. Thank You, Allen
