I just finished up a little modification I have been meaning to do for awhile. I wanted to add a barrier up front by the grill to help separate the hot radiator air from getting into my cold air intake at low speed or sitting at the starting line. I left the partition unpainted to help see it better for the pictures but it still turned out on the dark side. I am going to do a few more odds and ends to further seal up the CAI box. Here are a couple of pictures.

Did you measure any significant impact to IAT readings?

"Did you measure any significant impact to IAT readings?"

Not yet as I have not tried this mod out yet. I did notice sitting at a light the IAT would shoot up 10-15 degrees above the outside air temperature. Maybe more if I sat there longer and probably depending on which way the breeze was blowing it would go higher.

I just got back from the powder coater as I am having the pieces painted a simi-gloss black to match the other componets. When I get it back and mounted I will run some more tests.

I noted above when driving around at say 15mph the temperature difference was only like 3 degrees between the IAT and the OAT. When I went up to around 40mph the difference was only like 1 degree.

So bottom line if this works it is only going to help when the car is not moving or up to 10mph.

Ok, got a few punch list items done. One is I have had the resonators installed to cut down on the drone and loudness. They work as advertised. I am really liking this car. Here is a picture.

Next is I got the G8 6L80 transmission oil pan installed. This increased the ground clearance about .750". Now it is close to the level of the exhaust. Here is a picture.

Next, I had the 15/16" sway bar replaced with a 1 5/16" hollow sway bar. Should help in the cornering and be more of a match to the 1" on the rear. Here is a picture.

I also had some brake work done with one being the installation of EBC red stuff brake pads. While looking at the car I think I want to raise the front of the car maybe an inch. The photo shows the car in my driveway which is on a slope so you don't get a true perspective. Here is a recent photo.

So, how much difference did the resonators make?

A lot. When I went to pick up the car and fired it off I could tell right away the difference. It was very noticeable. Driving it home with the window up you can hardly hear the exhaust. With the radio on you would not hear it at all. With the window down it was very mellow until I got on it.

These are the 3" Vibrant version that are straight through so no resistance or power loss. The resonators also extend the exhaust exit a little more to the back by the bumper and I am sure that also helped some.

I bought a couple of feet of 3/8" stainless steel rod so they could make up new hooks to hold up the tail pipes.

On the punch list is getting the A/C working. Raising the front 1". Found some Global West coil spring spacers that look like they will work for that. I still have to get the final tune. Probably a few other items that are slipping my mind at the moment.

Speedometer update. No matter what I tried I could not get the speedometer to work with the J57 output out of the ECM. So I went ahead and put in the GMLAN speedometer that works off the data communications. Bingo, worked right away. One less punch list item. I just got tired of taking my dash apart.

Thank you for the compliment.

Next on the punch list is getting the A/C working and raising the front of the car an inch. One thing I did not notice on the A/C wiring diagram was that the 12V power source should be from a switched ignition source. So I will need to add a relay so that the A/C unit only gets power when the key is on.

Regarding raising the car an inch, I will install the Global West aluminum coil spring spacer. According to Global West you only need one a 1/2" tall to raise the car an inch.

Then I will take the car for the final tune including the transmission.

Who are you going to have tune your car? Also what gears do you have in the rear? I was also wondering what converter you would recommend? All thats left to get mine running (hopefully) is wiring, converter, and gears. Sorry if I'm overloading you with questions.
Thanks, Chris

I am going to have Cunningham Motor Sports in Temecula do the final tuning. He is very familiar with these setups. I chose the 3.27 gear set for my car. That was based on the rear tire size being 25.96" in diameter and wanting the engine turning around 1900rpm at 70mph. I think for me it is a good compromise between the track and highway cruising.

I chose the Yank 3200 converter mainly based on the low first gear of the 6L80 transmission and a lot of the automatic Camaros have that size with good results. Again a compromise between the street and the track. I could have probably gone with a 3600 converter without much difference.

Awesome. I was thinking of getting the yank 3600 and a 3.20s or 3.30s gear. I'll have to find someone in sac to tune my car though. Thanks for the info!

I had the Yank SS3600 in my Trans Am and it was a fine torque converter for a blend between street and track. I have a 4L60E in the Trans Am. It took me less than a day to get used to it. It will be a find choice for your car.

I now have a Yank SS4000 in the Trans Am and the difference is more noticable to me than the difference between the SS3200 and SS3600. It seems like a larger step than the rpm range would indicate. Again after awhile you get used to it. Especially with the lock up feature of the torque converter.

The reason I stepped up to the Yank SS4000 was I wanted to set the club record for a N/A Tuned Port Injection car. I did with a 11.57@ 116mph in the quarter mile. This car seems every bit as fast and maybe faster. Hard to tell with the butt dyno.

From your pics it looked like Orange County. I used to live in Newport Beach for college back in the day. Good times.

Great looking car. Gotta love a car with no smog testing. Curious what it'll run at the strip this year.

I am hoping for a 10.99 at the strip. No smog was one of the main factors in getting the car.

I just got back from calibrating the speedometer. I took my wife with me because she has GPS on her cell phone so we could get an accurate mph reading when setting the speedometer. Anyways I got on the car a little bit and her butt puckered up and she told be to slow down. I guess she is not used to being pinned to the back seat. Hahahaha.

Great build. Something to keep in mind. When you raise the front, you will change the alignment settings, so I would have them put it back on the rack and check the numbers. Hate to see you burn up a new set of tires.
