Default Heat shrink tubing?

Does this look like a good kit to use on an engine harness? I'm not that up on all the types of heat shrink tubing. Thanks

Looks OK, just kinda pricey. it is the adhesive type. i get mine at HF. You can get 10 times as much for the same price, and you might be able to pick it up locally.

Looks pretty decent to me. Not a bad selection for what you get, price is slightly high, but not out of the ordinary.

I'm not a HF fan, especially for electrical stuff; but that's me. Too many years in aerospace/medical, I'll pay a few extra $$ for good stuff.

Fastenal has a good selection of heat shrink tubing. Kit form or big rolls of various diameters.

I would bet dollars to donuts that eBay stuff is made in the same Chinese factory as the Harbor Freight stuff.

You can get 2.5 boxes of the Harbor Freight stuff for the same price of the eBay stuff, and not have to wait a week to get it, the eBay pricing reflects their "free shipping" and all the eBay fees they will incur, insertion fees, final value fees, Paypal fees that is why their $5.50 at the Harbor Freight store shrink tubing ends up being $14.95 on eBay.

I use the tinted medium wall heat shrink. What I like most about it is the heat shrink hardens quite a bit, this helps protect it from breaking.

I dont think that ebay price is that bad. The stuff I use is MUCH higher than that. But im a picky sun of a (*$&#%

I agree with you green96ta. Wiring is not something you want to look for the cheapest products to use. Get the good stuff and make it last. I buy my adhesive lined heat shrink from Fastenal. It's 5 times as expensive as that eBay kit but I know from experience that it lasts and it seals really well.

I also buy uninsulated ring terminals then solder the connection and heat shrink over them. The heat shrink crimp on terminals are ok but I prefer a solder connection.

Some HF stuff is junk. Some of their stuff is the exact same stuff you get from the name brand places, just repackaged into a different box. Some HF stuff is actually better than name brand stuff. Their composite ratchets are super nice.

You need to actually look at the individual part.

But yeah, doesn't sound cool to actually do that.

Agreed. I get mine from Electronics Suppliers (Digikey, Mouser, Allies Elec); and Tyco or Raychem are the 2 brands that I use (Mil-Spec rated of course). But I'm another super **** SOB.

McMaster-Carr has a large selection of Heat Shrink stuff.. I also buy my cable sleeving from them..

Bottom line... you can find this stuff all over the place.. swap meets, part stores, electrical stores, etc some are cheap in price and other are cheap in quality, I have even found some in them 99Cent stores. Most will work without issues.

There are many type of shrink tubing. McMaster-Carr has a page listing the many types.
