You could use a simple micro switch if you wanted.

That reminds me I never did hook mine up. My ratchet shifter came with a couple of micro switches I know one was intended for the reverse lights.

There's a wire connection down at the trans tunnel that plugs into the Ford T5 or AOD for reverse lights. Look in the trans tunnel vicinity.

This is the one for the T5:

The T5 is a two wire connection and as I recall the AOD harness is a 4 wire. In either case you should be able to make a micro-switch complete the circuit through some minor trial and error.

Your looking for a 4 wire harness under your console. While your hooking up your backup lights use the other two in the harness and hook up your neutral safety switch if you haven't already. Depending on the shifter yours may already be setup for them.

I wired mine to my hurst shifter, mine was an auto and it had 4 wires like stated above. 2 for the neutral safety switch ans 2 for the reverse lights. they are on the drivers side of the trans tunnel.

I cut the connector off and pulled it inside the car and stripped the ends of the wire off and figured out which wires let me start the car and which turned the reverse lights on. 2 are ground wires and the other 2 are, 1 for reverse lights and 1 for neutral safety switch.

I figured with a manual body car it would just be the clutch switch?
