I got the 70 Camaro back. It is need of shift linkage adjustment and a couple other things. It has not been driven since I rolled it into the storage building for winter.

I started working on my wife's formula since that has been on the lift since october. I got as far as removing the old noisy rear end, swapping backing plates and getting the exhaust off so I could drop the tank and put in a walboro 255L/Hr I have had kicking around. Yet the tank is still in the car and hasn't been pulled down.

Everything has pretty much been on hold because my wife gave birth to our son. Even though I am on paid family leave, I do not have much energy or time away from home to go work on anything. Thinking I am going to switch the fuel pumps at this time so I don't have to do a trap door mod, put the rear end back in and call it at that so the lift will be freed up and the car can be driven around next summer.

I think once spring rolls around and my 99 Z28 sells and I can get the 70 home, I can start working on it so I don't have drive 30 minutes to get the shop.

Thank you

Just realized I never put up my last set of pictures of the car being on the road.

I am using a Griffin, required cutting the hold down and bending the edges. Although i don't have any coolant puddles, there is a wet spot on the radiator in the middle that's red like coolant. Quality initially looked good. Just that bothers me.

Are you running power steering? I see the pump in the pictures but you didn't mention hooking it up. I hear you need to reduce the pressure for older steering boxes just wondering if you had to do that

I am using power steering. Factory ls1 camaro pump and the factory 70 gear box. The return line is a factory 70 line, the pressure line is a custom line that I had to get made, using the ls1 style on 1 end and the original on the other. I haven't had any issues in the few hundred miles it has been driven. The steering is very smooth though from the increased flow of fluid.

Anyone know how to tell based on leaf spring count if springs are factory or not? I want to get the *** end lowered on this beast. The raked look and feel for driving is not my favorite.

Removing leaves is NOT the answer, as it will make the ride far too soft and mushy, plus more uncontrollable. Use spacer blocks if you must lower it, or better yet, re-arch the springs

Just buy some DSE lowering springs or whatever brand you prefer.

Default Out and about

Well this past weekend after a stressful work day pulled out the 70 Camaro and decided to take it for a ride hoping that the transmission had been properly fixed. Much to my delight the speedometer is now working at it should! She shifts into overdrive and cruising highway speeds of 65 mph at right about 2500 rpm. Running and driving wise it is feeling good. I have to readjust the shift linkage, apparently they don't know how to properly do that by putting it into neutral first... Also need to adjust the glass for the doors so the driver's door. The motor is running very rich and is in desperate need of being leaned out with another proper tune. So that will be eating into the pocket book.

Tires unfortunately are becoming a bit of an issue for the rear as the PCM is programmed for 28" tall rear tires with the 3.73 gears. The guy who did the initial tune said there was no way to change that with his program when selecting 3.73 gears. So I ordered 2 new 17x9 rims, as I am having to find a 28" tall tire for my 17" rims. My current rims are 17x8s but everything I am finding is looking for a minimum rim width of 9". I found P255/55R18 is a 28" tall tire but only 8.8" wide. In that size only pirelli $225 each or federal $120 each are available. The federal are junk imo, while I think the pirelli is over priced and not to far from a Mickey. I currently have used/test purposes only 235/60r17's from a van on it and they don't grip good at all. Does anyone have any suggestions other then E/T streets at $300 a pair?

Also on the hunt the interior trim piece that goes from A pillar to A pillar that runs along the windshield as well as the sun visor center support bracket.

I also got my Blue 99 Firebird Formula out as well. Have a hard cylinder 3 misfire in that now on start up... Either the valve guide really end bad or maybe the head gasket is really going on it after sitting all winter with no oil and coolant in it as I didn't get to doing the motor work I wanted to.

Lastly, I acquired a new Project. Deciding to keep the car and do it. An original 67 Firebird 400, Factory 4 speed car. I am on the hunt for a 4 speed set up. Would love a 5 but don't have that kinda dough with needing to get this one painted and searching for a good rear end / 12 bolt for it as the chevy 10 bolt in it is bad. It has a brand new 400 motor in it and a turbo 400 that has no known history. Lots of parts came with it. Always liked the 67 and finding out they are quite hard to come by now.

So that's the update. Trying to prioritize the 70 and 67. Looking for someone to paint the bird. Hoping to drive the 99 daily and ignore the misfire as its only on startup.

I'm glad you decided not to sell the Firebird, thanks again for letting me come check it out. I still want to get over and check out your 70. As for the tires I suggest checking with someone else about programming. The guy that did mine had no issues with tire size. Have you tried Berg racing? They do a lot of tuning and programming.

On the hunt for a sun visor center support bracket for my 70 in black. Just ordered some more interior pieces. Hoping to get the wipers and my new heater controls in this weekend while my son is with grandma.

Just got the camaro back from berg racing. My best friend picked it up foe since work was crazy and I had my son. He said he runs much better now. Put down 372hp and 370tq at the wheels. I am happy with that knowing I have at least 25% drive train loss.
They also set the tire diameter to 26 so now going to order some 275/40r17 for the rear. Thinking Mickey Thompson et streets.

Packed on 1200 miles so far onto the odometer. Had my son with me in the car for at least half of it so I have been behaving. Transmission has had some leaks and I think the rear output shaft bearing and seal in it is bad because if I park it at an angle it leaks. If it is level or even driving/run on a lift there is no leak at all. I bought a new trans to not have any issues and it seems to like to keep giving me some. I may just have to go the T56 route once I get to fed up.

Going to search for a new exhaust once time and budget allow. This Dynatech MuscleMaxx I have been having to constantly tweak and adjust mufflers and tail pipes from rubbing. The metal is good and strong but I am almost wishing I just bought a flowmaster crossflow or walker original style exhaust. At least there is no hassle.

I bought the M/T all season radial tire, budget wise and for driving in the rain. They work surprisingly very well; however, I rarely punch it as my son is almost always with me in the car.

On the search for a new window roller for the passenger window. 1 decided to come apart and separate.

Been working on the 67 Firebird 400 as time allows. I had it painted and it looks fantastic. I will post some pictures of that up, either on this post or maybe a new thread. It is not an LS car so I don't think it would be wanted on a LS based forum.

Good dyno #'s. I like the DOUGs Headers Very tight routing and they don't hang down.

First pictures after arrival from painting.

Working on trim and things.

Emblems and things on.
Thought I should put up a couple older shots of the 68 Bird after I got it back from painting.

Just had surgery on getting my nose straighten and some anode glands in my sinus area that never shrunk when I was kid. So I am out for a wee bit. Just going to put the 70 away soon for the winter.
