Default lq9 in k10. Need extended clutch fan or fan shroud. Suggestions?

This is my issue. I've put an lq4 with a clutch fan from some late model truck in my 86 k10. The fan doesnt really extend far enough into the k10 fan shroud. This causes no issues in the cooling system. The problem is that during the summer months it doesn't pull enough air through the condenser and AC pressures SPIKE! I've tried vast different amounts of refrigerant to try and counter act the problem, but only at idle during warm temps the AC will over pressurize and blow 134 from the compressor relief valve. If I recreate the same conditions and have a fan blowing into the grill, pressures stabilize. Best I can figure is the fan isn't far enough into the shroud to work correctly. Do they make longer shanked clutch fans? Before anyone says it- I have no plans to switch to an electric fan. I'm done with the swap and dont want to go tearing into the harness again. Let me know anyone has any suggestions

As lazy as I am, I would think about moving the radiator and all, closer to the fan.

Looks like I'll have the same problem with my K5 Blazer. Does the fan line up in the center of the shroud like it should?

I would build an aluminum square tube, box the size of the outer perimeter of the shroud. I would use 1/2-1" square stock build it back to the distance I want till my fan meets nicely and walla. My 1/2 cent anyways. Oh yeah I would spay it black aswell

You said you didn't want it but an electric fan would probably be the easiest way. I have the same shroud, and bought a 3,000cfm fan for $60 brand new. Made a doughnut shaped piece of metal to attach it to the shroud and let the PCM control it, you can wire it to where it comes on with the AC too. Only about $20 for relays/wires and you get back the parasitic horsepower loss from the mech fan.

Flex a lite makes a adapter to go from threaded to the old style 4 bolt
Then u can use the common cheap spacers to get it where u need it
the adapter spacer is 55 bucks+a clutch fan an like 10 bucks for a 4bolt style spacer

The other option that just came to mine is get a shroud off a v6 truck an cut it down to the length u need

I've read a few horror stories of spacers causing the water pumps to basically explode from all the extra stress. I suppose extending the shroud is the most effective method

With my LQ9 swap I built a shroud out of fiberglass and aluminum.
But I also added an electric puller fan. It's actuated by a trinary switch in the AC system. That sounds like the perfect solution for you. No need to get into the harness, just a stand alone with a trinary switch and relay.

I thought about getting a fan spacer made, but like you, I was afraid of the stress from the extra length. I think I'll have a shroud spacer made from this sheet metal.

Yes it centers pretty darn well. Looks like I have at least half inch of clearance all around

Found this thread searching to extend the fan forward on my project. After combing through Four Seasons website you can use a clutch fan from an 02-04 Dodge Ram. Same whether it's from a 4.7 or a 5.7 hemi. It's an inch longer.

Fir the time and $$ spent looking for a solution, you could have bought brand new Camaro fans or used 2005-up Silverado fans and never have any cooling issues. Plus they clear up a bunch of space in front of the engine.

It only took me about 10 minutes on rockauto.com to figure it out. True an electric fan setup is what everyone does , but some of us are going for a more vintage look. The fan shroud on the TA is in good condition so I may as well use it. Besides, the clutch fan once disengaged doesn't take hardly anything and you don't have to worry about getting it wired in to cycle when you turn on the ac and get it to cycle on and off.
