Yup. I didn't pick this cam by accident

Old cam had 10 degrees of overlap, new cam has -3 degrees overlap.

You have the .006” duration number on each? That will tell us something about ramp rates.

Nope. GM does not provide a cam card with any of their cams.

How is one supposed to degree them or check valve events? Rhetorical....

If we had the numbers - suspect the GM cam uses significantly more .006” duration relative to the .050” duration = lazy ramp rates. The one you put in may actually have more open-area “under the curve” despite the shorter duration.

I suspect you're correct on all accounts. The ASA cam works with stock springs, so that's another clue about lobe profile, etc...

I've been hearing that both the GM Hot Cam and the GM ASA cam are very lazy when it comes to lift rates. That plus very low lifts for so-called high performance cams makes them non players in my book.

I completely understand having gentle cam lobes for longevity and compatibility with stock valve springs. In fact, I originally chose that cam for those reasons. But given my future plans and how I like my car to idle and run, the Ghost cam was a better fit.

I totally agree about the cam tech, but it's old tech and lobe science has come a long way since those old GM grinds came out. I would bet that the new cam isn't much rougher on the valvetrain than the ASA cam was.

We shall see. The cam I had back in 2003 in my RX7 broke a few valve springs in about 3k miles.

Andrew,
Thanks for updating this thread. How do you like the Summit cam VS. the ASA cam or whatever you removed. If you covered this already, sorry. My lunch is only 1/2hr. LOL

Your pics look great. What camera did you use and what megapixel? The tree pic looks amazing.

Jimbo,

For what I want to do with this car and for how I want to drive it, the Summit cam is way better. I use the camera on my phone, which is a One Plus 6T and it takes amazing pictures.

I am going to make another video today, but I feel like I need to cover the basics, before getting into any actual tuning stuff. You can always hire me for a private consultation...LOL

Sounds nice Andrew - clearly more authority than a stock cam, but completely manageable.

Not much new to report, other than really enjoying the new cam. I am living in the Louisville area temporarily and have been enjoying having the car with me. It sure beats driving an appliance every day. If anyone is in the area, please reach out. I can use more car buddies to hang out with.

Yesterday I did a little project that I think will enhance the overall driving experience. I bought a stitch on leather steering wheel cover on Amazon for $13. The quality was way better than I expected at that price point and I decided to stitch it on with the suede side out. It will probably wear quicker, but for the price and ease of installation, who cares. It turned out pretty good.

Some future projects that I have in the works are adding tailpipes and installing a new center section in the rear end. Flowmaster actually makes a tailpipe kit for it that I have already purchased and if that doesn't work out, I got a bunch of straight pipe and U-bends. Herb Lump has been kind enough to offer help with that project.

I also purchased a 9" center section with a clutch style diff and 3.25 gears. I want my buddy Jim to have a look at it, because the previous owner said they pulled it out because the gears were howling. I may upgrade to a Strange Daytona pinion support and add new US Gears that are polished. Or I may just toss it in as is and see what happens, after I swap pinion yokes.

Today I also reached 1000 subscribers on YouTube, so thanks to those that are following along. This has motivated me to make more Holley Terminator X videos, which seem to be pretty popular. That's all for now.

Andrew
