Default 65-70 Impala Swap Info

I'd like to see who all had swapped an LS series motor into their 65-70. Unlike a lot of other "classics", I haven't seen many posts or threads on our models. It's been hard searching through the threads seeing what works the best and what doesn't. And since a lot of yhese posts are fairly old, it would be interesting to see what parts people have been using that have just been introduced in the recent years.

Maybe talk about what headers or exhaust manifolds you used, oil pan, throttle cable, transmission crossmember, fuel tank, etc. I know some have used the Holley oil pan and I've read about some using the LH8 pan after raising the engine mounts on the crossmember.

If possible, post a picture of your car and the engine bay for everyone's motivation!

I'm collecting parts for this swap in my 65 impala (Lq4 & 4l80e). I'm still researching all options here but I suggest you check out nicke's 65 build on here. He used the Holley 302-2 pan and trailblazer ss manifolds I think. I'm going this route as my car is lowered a bit in the front and the Holley pan is higher than the x member and the truck intake clears the hood too. Good luck with your swap.

I've ordered that pan too. The only thing I'm still wondering about is having to raise the motor up some like KWHIZZ did to clear the front of the pan. He made thicker brackets to raise the engine up.

What about headers? Some have used the 67-69 Camaro long tube swap headers with success. I'm thinking about going with the $190 ebay shorty LS Stainless headers.

How do you wire up a 1965 swap?

Also......I would be careful with the Holley 302-2 pan in this conversion......the sump part of the pan is longer and I'm sure there would be some steering clearance issues ...........Just say'in.....

My setup isn't complete yet (still need to finish wiring, trans crossmember, driveshaft).

But the motor is in.

I used the Holley 302-1 pan, the dirty dingo slider mounts, and two customizations-

1. The motor mount perches were moved outward (so they also moved up) by one inch.

2. I made two custom spacers out of .5in aluminum plate to go between the dingo slider mounts and the motor mounts.

Do you mean the 302-1 pan? I thought you used the 302-2 pan and it fit after raising your engine some?

Nope, he means the 302-2 pan.

Both Ken and myself used the 302-1 pan with no issues.

The "B" Body has the steering on the back side of the front cross member.....the 302-2 pan has a longer sump area.......which will end up taking away the room for the steering linkage.........I don't know for sure but I don't think the -2 pan will work

Guess I gave him the wrong part number when I ordered my pan.

I also found this awesome link too. Install of LS2 into a 1970 Caprice http://www.lowridermagazine.com/tech.../photo_09.html

I appreciate all of the information, comments and suggestions you all have provided so far!

On my 66 4 door I used the 302-2 pan and have no issues with steering. For headers I used speed engineering part # 1025 they are for a c10 Chevy truck but fit awesome and clear the manual steering box.
