Test fit. Tranny not mounted. Engine mounts slid right in to frame mounts. Oil pan sits about 3/4 inch above K member. This picture is at full steering lock. plenty of tie rod clearance.

Default Moment of Truth

Here are the pics of the engine mounted with tranny and headers. I couldn't be more thrilled with the header fit and clearance. I had to use the g-force crossmember because Holley doesn't make one for my convertible (yet). As you can see, it works seamlessly. Thank you Todd!!!!

That's some good stuff right there. It's very satisfying to finally have Hooker A-body swap parts out in the market to help users simplify the swap process and remedy some of the long standing issues that have existed to this point.

Default question

Will the trans cross member making contact with the floor cause some nvh in the cab?

Good question. Let me ponder that one.

OLDSTV. Thanks for the observation. I'm gonna have to find 3/8 to 1/4 inch clearance somehow between the cross member and floor pan. It is not tightened down so I'll try massaging the floor pan with some wood and a jack tighten it down and see if that helps. I have brand new body bushings so that can't be the issue.

It might be an issue as far as nvh. You could drive it and see, you can always come back to it. I do wonder about possible corrosion at the contact points just from movement. This too might not be an issue but worth looking at.

Looks Good, Thanks for the pics they will help me out quite a bit. Would you be able to verify the center to center spacing of the header tips for me.

Tooling for castings is expensive. Adding a little modification to the pan is cheap.

Stop being so reasonable Andrew! It would be a lot easier to justify the tooling costs associated with a design revision if a greater percentage of swappers overall were putting together stroker engines, or if the required modification was difficult to carry out. As it is, neither of those is the case. It may happen in the future, but there are bigger fish to fry at the moment that will have a greater ROI.

The first production run of the 1-7/8" mid-length headers has been completed and will get boxed up and placed on the shelf next week. The transmission crossmembers are running a week behind schedule but should get delivered next week. Here's a photo of a set of the mid-length headers out of the completed batch...

Looks good Todd!! What would the benefit to using a mid length over a standard long tube?

The benefit would be to achieve the maximum possible ground clearance. The long-tubes tuck well, but for those wanting to "lay frame" you can never have enough ground clearance.

Todd,

I am as suing that there will be some intermediate pipes available to join the mid length headers with the exhaust system...

That's correct Andrew. There will be adapter tube kits released that connect the Hooker cast iron manifolds to the 2.5" Hooker exhaust system, the mid-length headers to the 2.5" or 3" exhaust systems and the long-tube headers to the 2.5" exhaust system. The long-tube headers connect directly to the 3" exhaust system. The adapter tubes will get released over the next few weeks.
