Fuel pump question

I am putting a 5.3 from an 06 Rainier in a 71 Cutlass. I read this thread about using a 5th gen Camaro pump in a gen 1 Camaro, which got me to thinking. If I could swap the fuel pump from the Rainier to the Cutlass in a similar manner would it be sufficient for the 5.3 with cam, headers, tune or not enough volume? I don't know much about this and need help.

Fuel pump will supply plenty, but wont fit in the shallow cutlass tank. You also need a sump and baffles don't hurt.
Check out the caprice tank with racetronics walbro pump upgrade for the cutlass.

If a cam driven mechanical pump can pull fuel all of the way from the tank up to the engine, then why can't an electric pump mounted 2 feet from the pickup get the job done?

The problem you can run into with flat, wide tanks without a sump is fuel starvation during turns. EFI systems don't respond nearly as well as carbs to short term starvation.
I'm running an inline on my tall, deep tank in my C3 corvette and have had a few hiccups on cloverleafs at less than 1/4 tank. When I saw the flat A body tank, I suspected it would be worse.
I know the truck and 98-02 f body pumps are too tall for the stock A body tank, but recall a few other stock options that were lower...the CTS-V maybe?
Spectra sells EFI tanks and Tanks Inc has some solutions that might work with your tank.
