Man there is so much good info on this thread. Refreshing from the crap posted on fb now in lstead of these forums.
I'm trying to secure a hellcat/8hp90 combo now. So this is all gold. It will be going into a 1986 suburban 2wd.
Will update when I actually have a trans in hand!

I just finished an LSA/4L80e swap in my Buick Roadmaster Wagon, and the only thing I'm not happy with is the transmission. This thread really sent me down the rabbit hole, and an 8HP(70?) looks like it's exactly what I need.
I'm about ready to start buying parts. I see TurboLamik says their product works with the E38 CAN protocol, but does anyone here have first hand experience or know of anyone who has used a GM E38 + TurboLamik? Tbh I'll probably just pull the trigger once I can find one example of success with this combo. I'll reach out to the guys at TurboLamik as well, but if anyone has any first-hand experience, I'd love to hear it.

I went from a miserable 4l80 to this and it made the car a complete beast in comparison

I'm in the middle of putting a new LS2 together and this would be a great time to phase out the 4L80 and loose converter for something better.
Hey guys
This is Greg from Turbolamik USA
TurboLamik gets data using GM CAN from GM CAN starting with E-3x all the way to E-9X ECUs (and many others)
CAN commiunication is the same and there are minor changes on how it reports torque which can be calibrated in our TCU
Today we installed a TurboLamik TCU for Bowler performance Transmissions for their trans dyno and we thought we would need to add the can protocol to our TCU but it turned out to be the same as previous versions.
Their trans dyno is using LT1 engine with Chevrolet Performance LT1 Engine Controller Package with E-92 controller.
For all the folks who need to install our TCU on carb cars or are worried that can is not supported then all you need to do is add 3 sensors (MAP, RPM, TPS) power and brake signal. (This even applies to diesels btw)
As far as congifuration/tuning its pretty straight forward.
If you unsure what to do then you can call us once its installed and wired and I will remotely configure your controller and test your gearbox.
This typically takes 15 minutes and you are ready to hit the road and do adaptations.
Feel free to email me with any questions
Sorry I dont have any links to "build threads" but this is setup has been tried and tested over and over with almost 9K Turbolamik controllers on the streets worldwide

I agree and the 8hp is much more affordable and comes in many different vehicles. If the kinks are worked out with the turbolamik stuff then id be interested in one for sure. Ive heard they are pretty big, how do they compare to a 4l80e in size?
This guy scrapped his setup and was using the turbolamik setup but claimed there was no support https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fnNu8D...NzAgc3Vja3M%3D
not trying to hijack or say anything negative just want to clear up the issues side of things.

PLEASE CORRECT YOUR POST. HE WAS USING HTG CONTROLLER THAT HAD MANY ISSUES
I actually reached out to him when he had issues and offered assistance as he is in St Louis and I'm in Chicago. I actually said if he is willing to drive here then I would install the controller test and if he's happy with the performance then he can pay me my cost but at this point he was so frustrated that he just was ready to give up but that doesn't mean the swaps don't work.

On an early LS1 PCM (or other early drive by cable throttle body PCMs (In my case a 411 GM PCM), can you tee into the TPS and MAP sensor wiring ? Another way to ask the same question is, can the TurboLamik TCM and the GM PCM share the signal from a single TPS sensor and MAP sensor? Can you use the Tach Output from the PCM and share that signal with a tachometer?
Scott
then you need LS adapter, Lamik TCU and a charger /challenger trans
Plenty of them on FB marketplace and local yards
You're looking for 8HP70
Don't waste your time with 4l80 and 6l80 garbage
Both cars on TurboLamik TCU @holleyfest - BMW is LT with dodge 8HP70 gearbox
