I just put my engine in for an test fit last weekend with the ls1 headers that came on the engine they fit fine but I have front steer and i dont think that there is any way they would fit with rear steer.

my car is a 67 camaro the engine and headers are 99, maybe someone will chime in and tell you that they will. I can take a pic and send it to you if it would help. I have the front clip off the front of it, which would make it much easyer to see what you need. I wont be back at the shop until sunday though.

the headers have plenty clearence they fit like they were made for my 67 camaro. that pic was resized and doesnot show all the header if anyone would like they can email me and I will send them pics of anythig I have done.
I am in the process of biulding my own motor mounts righr now and saving a couple hundred doing it. I will try to post a pic of the first stage of the mock up they will be beefed up after I take the motor out. well I cant seem to post without loosing size and cutting out half the pic. so if you would like you can email me and I will send it to you.

I bought and tried a set of Kooks on my 69 camaro LS1 conversion and they did not fit on the drivers side. Te collector turns out and hits the sub frame and it did not clear the steering box. If you are looking for a long tube header. Stainless Works makes one now that fits a 1st gen with a steering box and 21st Century Street machine makes one as well...1 3/4 step to 1 7/8. 704-243-1566

I have a 1969 LS1 Camaro with Pace setters LT's. I have power steering so my box is bigger the then manual, and I got the LT's to fit by only modding 1 pipe. The collectors extend about 1/4-1/3 in. below the subframe so ground clearance is not a problem. It's a tight fit but they do work and for a whole lot cheap then the mid lengths you can get form S&P.
I bought no-coated pacesetters from texas speed for around 300 shipped and then had a local muffler shop cut and bend one pipe. I do however, have solid motor mounts so someone running rubber or poly mounts my have to do some more modification. But when it was all said and done I got LS1 LT's to fit in my firs gen for about 340.
If someone wants to host my some pics I would be happy to show you what I did.
Yeah, no offence Jase but be prepared to almost triple that amount if you want to do it right and don't even have a car yet. I would take that 8000 and keep saving and find a nice relativly rust free camaro first; get a solid car/starting point, drive it around and have fun with it while saving for the engine swap. Don't mean to be a downer just telling you what I had to go through; tearing apart a perfect camaro and having it sit on jack stands while a wait for my next pay check.
