I have no brand loyalty. I just want the best of both worlds. After comparing #s on the GTs VS Camaros...it seems this would be the ultimate performance comprimise. Ive seen 99 GTs with 360 rwhp run 11.6s at 113 mph with a 1.54 sixty foot. Chassis was bone stock except for soem ET drags bolted on. What would that same car do with a better suspension a little weight reduction and 650 rwhp and 800 ft/lbs rwtq? Mid 9s withought breaking a sweat! Daily drivable due to the almighty LS1 too. And still have all the amenities of a newer car.
Yeah? Ney? what do you think. I personally dont think it would be a hard swap at all.

Well, if you go with a GM tranny, then the hardest part would probably be wiring and motormounts? Maybe run an engine plate instead of mounts?

go for it, use a T56, and have the car that the stangers wish for, a car with low end torque, 30 mpg, and a 8.8 rear end
Ryan <- has thought about a 99 cobra w/ LS1 power..but is broke, lol

The reason they 60 so well is the 3.35 or 3.27 first gear as oppossed to our 2.66. It has nothing to do with the Mustang suspension being any better. Give us a 2.97 first and I would have no problem running low 1.5s. It's all in the gearing
BTW You would still be stuck with the 2.66 geared T-56 to mate up with the LS1. Presently the only choice for an alternate gearing for the LS1 is the Richmond ROD 6 speed trannys. About $3000 and a first up to 4.06.

I like this idea. Except that if it were me, I'd use a 98 - much nicer looking IMO. Be alot nicer with some more power.
Certainly must be plenty of room under the hood since the 4.6 is much, much wider.

Even with the first gear difference I think the stang chassis will out do most F bods, especially if you just get the correct rear gear. And considering things like tubular K members and other aftermarket parts for stangs are dirt cheap and very effective you could really lighten it up and make it perform. And perforn almost eqaul to a gutted stripped, race prepped F bod yet retain most of the amenities. My motor is completely streetable..I think more so than most Ford powerplants in the same HP range. Thats the beauty of the LS1...big power with good manners towards the extreme. I like the stang chassis alot. I just dont like the motor combos they have....not at all. I wonder what a used 99 GT would go for. Im going to start scanning the papers.

Just a quick look in Jegs, but the QA1 K frame is $269. Granatelli A arms are $291.
IMO the hotter ticket is to take the motor and put it into a 82-92 3rd gen Camaro.
Mustang stuff is not significantly cheaper for the parts you would need.

The guy bought the car brand new and he works offshore so his mom drives it most of the time to I don't think the car has had any mods...... all I am aware of is the oil ...... he pretty much babies the car because he has an actual race car...... Ya never know bout those sneaky for people...... they have to do something to make up for them being so damn slow!!!

Hey Al, we've talked about this..
My F-body went 1.540 on a completely stock suspension, ET Streets, 3401 race weight and stock motor.
With 12 bolt 3.73 & BMR control arms it has went many 1.56's or better (1.548 best) at ~3390 race weight at Sunshine in the past week... imagine what kind of 60's I could pull with your motor
The mustang your talking about is probably at least 200lbs lighter than your car, i'm guessing closer to 400lbs.
You have a problem with weight reduction in a F-body... have you really looked at my car? At the track the other night, everything that originally came on the car still worked. When I go to the track I remove the passengers seat and the rear speaker panels and of course change the wheels .
Now, I do run without the rear seat and there belts all the time.. but once again.. that's something that could be removed for track duty, if you choose.
I like the Mustang idea.. but I think a 377ci Ford motor would be much more fun!

Damn you!! this has always been an idea of mine. It would really **** of the Ford guys, they'd be all happy to see a Rustang whip up some Chevy, and then hate you when you popped the hood, but the Chevy guys would **** themselves laughing! I agree, the 99+ up is FUGLY, but if that's what you like, why waste the $$ on a GT?!?! They are exactly the same as V6 cars. That's why they are such bitch cars, they are V6 cars with a V8, whereas the F-bod is a V8 car reverse engineered to accept a V6 to make the bean counters and high school girls happy Go for it, and GOOD LUCK

Is there something fundamental about engine swaps that I am missing here?
Assuming you do away with ABS and AC (never trusted ABS and it's a convertible, so don't really care about AC), it seems all you would need to do is a) correctly mount the engine and transmission in the car (including crossmembers, driveshaft, etc), and b) connect ignition, fuel pump, etc and fire it up (using something like Speartechs standalone harness). Things like gauges can always be figured out either by using an aftermarket set or by using a convertor of some sort.
With the 99+ Mustangs you have the exact same returnless fuel system as the Fbodies, or if you are pre-99 you can use a return based fuel rail from the Vette.
Is there something I am totally overlooking? It seems fairly straightforward to me.

demon, you are correct. Basically if the motor will run, and is secured to the vehicle, your good to go
But getting the cars features in the 99+ stang may not be easy, missing 1/2 the computer.
Ryan.

what you mean by missing 1/2 the computer?
I am about to do this to my 99 v6 stang... i can't wait to rip out the ford computer and wires... and replace it with a simple ls1 kit...
what am i missin?
