Default 1956 LS1???

First I would like to thank LS1tech for acknowledging that other people may want to put LS1's into their cars. Secondly, I would like to compliment you all on your projects, I hope that my project will be as well thought out and well executed as the cars on here.

That being said, I was hoping I could get some input on my project from you all. I have a 1956 BelAir that I would like to put a LS1/4L60E in.

1. Seeing as the 55-57 Chevy's had front and rear motor mounts origionally, would it be better to check with Street & Performance to see if their mounting plates will work with the side motor mount conversion or having motor mounts fabricated?

2. Does anybody know of a website of somebody doing a similar swap? I have found one website for a guy doing a LS1 swap into a '56 Olds, but I am not sure if the deminsions are the same.

3. Would anybody happen to have and be able to scan and email me any of these articles?......

a. It was in the recent Super Chevy special issue (dedicated to 55-57 Chevy's) with the orange on orange '56 Nomad on the cover. They had an article about on how to install an LS1 into a '55 Chevy.

b. It was in either a older issue of Super Chevy or Chevy High Performance (I don't remember). They had an article on a Yellow '55 Chevy (w/ ZR1 style rims) test mule that Chevrolet had put a LS1 into. They included a list of the parts (and part #'s if I recall correctly) that were used for the swap.

3. Any suggestions would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

David

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Your best bet may be to e-mail the people in the magazines to get help (I don't know of anyone that has completed a swap here although I thought that maybe someone with a '57 may have posted early on). S&P probably has done one of these and should be a good resource. Please inquire here should you run into technical problems.

I would think that the swap should be pretty straight forward. You can certainly check out my swap page as it is the most extensive LS1 swap info anywhere on the Internet.

there was a 56 belair at the woodward dreamcruise in michigan last august that was sitting on a C5 chassis. slickest setup I've ever seen since that 57 nomad on a chevy blazer 4X4 about 10 years ago. I believe the 56 was put together by some of GM's big boys up there in detroit since it was at their pavillion in birmingham. maybe someone else here saw it too and can add more info. ...anyone?

That guy is brillant. He will help you out with anything you need. He has a 57 project car, he is going with the LT1 but he will know anything you have a question about. He is putting the LS1 in my truck (check it out under project cars.)
