It would be much easier to get a LS1 T56 because alot of things are different, Input shaft, bolt pattern, are you using the Lt1 just because you have one laying around?

Yeah, you need a new bellhousing for the T56, new front plate, new input shaft, new slave cylinder setup not to mention the lines and such. You will have close to 1k in just parts to make it work. For that unless you put large windows in the side of your LT1 block I'd rebuild it and be able to reuse what LT1 tranny stuff you have.

The Cobra T56 has a cable setup. LT1 has an external hydraulic slave cylinder like the old TPI 3rd Gen F-body's and some of the TBI 5-speed GM trucks.
I also have a LT1 T56 with a fresh rebuild, and while I will be changing out the front plate and using LS1 bellhousing and slave cylinder... I'm thinking of keeping the LT1 input shaft but with a different pilot bearing (factory on '05 LS2 C6) as its been told to me that it takes up that extra .400" difference. I'll find a part number on it and post a pic up of the bearing.

Good luck with that. Hmm .400" is alot to makeup for. If you are gonna go through the trouble to change the front cover and all that you might as well change the input shaft also. At that point what does $200 or whatever the input shaft cost actually gonna lose you. Also another thought. Clutch disc splines? Is the spline count and diameter on the LT1 the same as the LS1? I don't know but I thought it would be a good question to ask. What about spline engagement? Will the spline go onto the disc far enough?

The LT1 T56 transmission are getting hard to find and are rather desirable for guys that want to install it behind old school small blocks and big blocks. You best bet is to unload the LT1 T56 and get an LS1 T56. A salvage yard that specilizes in late model pull outs may even swap you straight for it. There are way too many differences between the 2 transmissions.
As for spline count, that is the same, 26 spline. If you managed to convert the LT1 T56 to an Ls1 style T56, then you would simply use an LS1 style clutch. The LT1 clutch is very different. It uses a pull style diaphragm vs the push style for the LS1.

Its no big deal either way, the input shaft is the only thing I don't already have and with the way I've been spending money, $200 would be one of my cheaper purchases, lol. The pilot length is the only difference. It may/may not even work, but I'd like to know. As others have said maybe its best to just sell the LT1 T56 or trade for a LS1 T56.

Andrew's right. I had a LT1 style behind my stock TPI. When I went to the LS1 I swapped to the LS1 style T56.
I went from a high mileage, stock clutch, LT1 style to a 40,000 mile, DF clutch, and Mcleod adjustable master LS1 style and actually made about $400..
